and it’s recognised in device manager

if you go into “Disk Management” in Device Manager, how does it show up ? I’ve just plugged in a drive and it says “698.63GB NTFS Healthy” – yours might need formatting ?

    Don’t format.

Vista is the problem yes but you can get them work, mine is dodgy at times.

Make sure when you booting up it’s plugged in seems to help. Once booted up unplug the USB and if it has external power the external power. Plug back in USB and then the power.

Also worth trying a few different USB ports seems to matter on mine.

Seagate website has many more solutions to the problem none of them suggest formatting.

Vista most certainly isn’t your problem as I can use two different external hard drives (probably at the same time if I tried) with our Vista machine.

Have you checked all the connections inside the caddy? I seem to recall mine stopped working at one point and the hard drive was loose in the caddy…

Second trying the disconnect / reconnect option.

    So any news Pook?

JulianA Vista is not compatible with some older Seagate drives they Seagate and MS will tell you that on their sites. They are work arounds though but won’t work with all drives.
