    Guys seriously.

he should have retired 12 months ago, would have saved the scots millions on a wasted election, and a failed idea by one man…

Hold on… you seem to be ignoring the votes of millions who voted with him.

    Corrected.

That’s still 1,617,988 more people than just one man.

they may have voted with him, but they weren’t voting for him, just the principle.

I don’t think most of them had an idea.

But still 382,012 votes away from “millions”.

Precisely… the election wasn’t about “a failed idea by one man”.
He may be the public face of the independence movement South of the border, but that’s far from the full picture.
I said “with” him, not “for” him.

If you include all the Scots living in England who voted “spiritually” then I’m sure it amounts to millions.

And don’t forget the Scottish nationalists who have moved from Marbella and are now living in the Bahamas.

Surely they would be voting ‘no’.

There are approx 800,000* people born in Scotland who live in England, if we take the 45% to 55% split and extend that to those people then that would give 360,000 extra yes votes, so not quite.

Do we need to calculate what effect the 400,000* people born in England who live in Scotland had on the result?

*of all ages, not all voting age.

It’s a well known fact that Scots living abroad are particularly patriotic, specially the ones living in the Bahamas, so I don’t accept your 45% to 55% suggestion.

    Absolutely. What is it ?

    Aye, an ernie fact. Shite.

    Absolutely. What is it ?

No idea, and I don’t care. They had as valid a vote as anyone.

No idea, and I don’t care.

Well fancy asking me then !

And btw I find your questioning the patriotism of Scots living in the Bahamas an unnecessary slur.

Ernie, you may be interested in a previous post from earlier today….

You ought to tone down the smugness XXX. Most people who voted Yes did so because they thought it was the best for their country. It is particularly devastating when you witness a development which you perceive to be seriously detrimental to your country and your country’s future.

“Passive” smugness/pi55 taking is still smugness.

So hold off the X factor single, the new Xmas “must have” (sic) will be AS’s book “100 days” for those not full to the brim of BS already. I hope there’s a kindle version…..

The well trodden path for political has-beens, time to make some money and fleece the foolhardy.

Mr Salmond also said on the BBC’s Sunday Politics Show that he is going to write a book entitled ‘100 days’ which will be coming out before Christmas. In it, he said he may reveal the things he would have changed about the Yes campaign.

    Telling the truth?

Perhaps the vote would have gone yes if the SNP had ditched the broad-based Yes approach and actually campaigned as a party on the basis of a platform?

How is he “rewriting history” ? He appears to fully accept the now historical fact that his referendum proposal was rejected by a clear margin. According to the article he’s merely suggesting the possibility of an illegal UDI.

If the vote had gone the other way what would Alex Salmond be saying to the no voters, who would be getting nothing from their vote unlike the yes voters who are at least getting greater devolution for Scotland?
