Running engines to keep warm camping rantette…

I mean, the weather is cold, you decided to camp knowing what the weather was doing, so bring warm clothing and things, and also just perhaps MTFU a bit.
Why does the rest of the campsite have to endure your blummin T5 tractor ticking over for hours at God knows what time just because you can’t be bothered to pack some decent kit?

The guy doing this outside my tent right now and has been for twenty minutes is blissfully unaware that he is about to become patio ballast….

It’s the cars you see at campsites that the owners think they need to run so they can charge the tablet or mobile phone…

Very out of order gassing all the other campers with their exhaust.

Mind you, at my gym some Dad dropped his kid off for a 1 hour PT class then retired outside to his Range Rover and sat there for the full hour with the engine on rather than sit on a comfy chair with the other parents in the gym’s reception.

I’ve seen people sat with their engines running a few times lately (like sat in Tesco’s car park to read the paper), clearly fuel isn’t dear enough yet 😐

This is one thing that really gets on my nerves. Their is no excuse for it really, like the op said they should be looking at the forecast and then packing adequately for the conditions. I’ve know people being asked to leave campsites now for leaving engines running.

On that note, I miss my tent… and have a new one arriving this week 😀

Ooooo. Pet hate. There’s a mum who arrives early at the school to drop her kid off, parks on the lane (even though the school are constantly asking people not to) then sits there with the engine running chatting to her cronies through the open window

We did it at a Le Mans 24hr once, unseasonably cold (bikes so April) and we just didn’t have the kit with us.

It’s probably the same people who put their car stereo on with the doors open. Because everyone on the campsite wants to listen to builders radio first thing in the morning with the car acting as a bass cannon.

Yeah it was nearly ten, but the clocks went forward so really it was only nine…

We were just thinking tonight is going to be one of those nights:

4wd for 90 mins to get to camp site in the middle of nowhere. Get here, kids down road with music on blaring. Just about to charge down there complain on stw, when it ticks over 9pm and the music stops. Still no idea why you need music in true wilderness, but at least the seem to respect the curfew.

But really, why the **** does anyone want to listen to music in the wilderness? If you wanted music then **** off back to the city!!!

We have music when camping, but other campers would not be able to hear much more than a faint murmur from small speakers, maybe just enough to recognise the tune. We always park ourselves at the far end away from everyone too.

campsite ninmbyism does my head in, you need a bit of live and let live, if someone is doing something you don’t like, go and have a chat with them, take a beer as a peace offering, you never know you may actually meet some interesting people.

Define ‘road’. We’re in a national park, and the last time we saw a gravel road (never mind Tarmac) was 90 mins of first/second gear sand, mud, and rock crawling away.

As for live and let live, how’s about enjoying the peaceful countryside you’ve come to and saving the music for the journey home? Do you really think everyone wants to listen to it?

Actually, I go to camp sites a very long way from anywhere, usually only accessible by a lot of 4wd only track. Usually, they’re very small sites (4 plots max). Usually empty.

Still no reason for the music, but I agree, we’ve met some great people camping. Just none of them inconsiderate **** with loud music. They’re not the sort of people most would describe as interesting

Running engines in the day time either to keep warm or charge game consoles/phones etc is very anti-social. But at night its just plain offensive. Folks that need this level of comfort should camp accordingly with a site that has hook-ups or a club house.

Maybe these folks like listening to music whilst relaxing?? maybe you are not the only person in the world that needs pleasing? maybe you would like to go and ask them nicely but your lack of a spine is preventing this? maybe this could be resolved without consulting stw.

People who like listening to loud music in a place where most people come for peace and quiet need to be made aware of an invention called earphones. I’m not talking about a large campsite at the edge of town, I’m talking about campsites with no more than four plots in the middle of bloody nowhere. I very much doubt anyone out here but them wants to hear music. I can tell this by the fact that its only the one group with music, yet presumably all the 4wds have car stereos, so presumably can play music.

zokes get off you laptop/ipad/iphone and go for a ride/walk around this loverly countryside! I dont see why anyone would want to pay good money to sleep in a tent and sit in a field all day in silence…… but each to their own init……

Neither are people who need to spend time posting on a Cycling forum when they are away for a weekend in the wilderness. But what they hell, each to their own eh ? 🙂

I would go for a walk, but it’s midnight, so consequently rather dark. And no, not tesco, but the bottom of the Eyre Peninsula in oz. most of the tescomobile 4wds are at the campsite where the Tarmac ended, about 40 Kms away
