Routes around Braemar and Ballater.

Going up in a few weeks. Know about Mount keen and Loch Muick and also got some routes out of a recent Singletrack. Any other recommendations? What is the snow like now? Would Mount Keen be out of the question still?

I was last at Loch Muick about 6 years ago, anyhow there was an unmanned Tourist info hut, which had a klix coffee machine. Just in case it's still there, take some loose change for hot drinks.

Not been near Braemar/Ballater recently but I would imagine that there still would be a fair bit of snow up there.

Or I could take a stove and warm up some brown water. Thanks anyway.

this was Mt Keen 2 weekends ago and there is a melt on but it is sloooooooooooooooow.There is some fantastic scenes with all the snow but it is not bike friendly at the mo.

Speak to the guys at the bike shop in Ballater, they know masses of local trails. They'll put you in touch with the local club who may even provide you with a guide. They are all a really good bunch of guys.

We are riding on one day with somebody that is fairly local but I thought I'd find out as much as I could before we go.

There's a TV mast above Braemar with a 4WD access track up one side and a bouldery path down the other. I've not done it yet but I've heard its extreme.

get on to the Ballater club website. lots of routes and info. Over here in Perthshire there is still snow and ice on tracks above about 400m but getting better by the day

Anybody got an opinion on the best descent to Loch Muick? Kenny Wilson's map shows the shorter steep option but The Wild Trails shows the longer optio which brings you to Black Burn. Anybody know which one this is, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xN6-rP68sA&feature=related

Either the Lightening Strike from Broad Cairn direction (which I haven't done), or the descent from Lochnagar which is just wickud awsum except for the bottom bit down to Glas Allt Shiel which is all but unrideable

The youtube clip is Corrie Chash from the pony shed (sanitised version)i.e the non ridgeline descent which is double track.
