I've just stripped my RM Solo down to bare frame and weighed it: 2lb 6oz. (barely over 1KG (without forks))
That's flippin light isn't it?
Be interested to compare. Seeing as I only use it as a commuter, it's wasted on me I reckon!
No wonder it cracked. 🙁

Whyte rep came in to see us at work today showing the whole range of bikes. He had a bare 29C frame in the back of his van too just to hold and play about with.

Curious as I am, I got the scales out...

1.08KG for a medium sized, Carbon Fibre Mountain Bike frame! Ok that was without any bottle cage bolts, seat clamp or front mech mount (it was just the carbon), but that's road bike territory!

equals 1077g

so yes, pretty light. Top end is sub 1kg these days, and the latest kit is sub 800g. But anything sub 1.2kg is fine really.

My '09 Giant TCR Advanced M/L is 1144g, and the whole bike is a smidgen under 7kg

Why are people obsessed with frame weights as if a pound or so makes that much difference in your performance ? Is it just weight weenie willy waving?

I've not heard of a broken one yet, and they've been on the market a while already... I'd trust it, hopefully will be riding one next week so will tell you what it's like!

because it's not just one component - it's a whole approach to weight-loss. If you can save just 10% on the weight of every part, then the whole bike will weight 10% less, and that's a lot. Drop from 8kg to 7kg on a roadie and you will definitely notice it.

Really? Are you sure about that or are you trolling? My FS is much heavier than my HT, however I am not sure it makes me a faster rider far from it...

However for road bikes, the latest willier is 750 grs

Road bikes tend to get raced a lot more than MTB's, so saving weight doesn't have to make a huge difference in performance, so long as it makes some difference.

Whether its worth spending all this money to win a race with virtually no prize money is a different matter...

If your FS was lighter, and ignoring any downsides to making it lighter, then you'd be faster.

Bike performance is made up of a number of factors, such as stiffness, geometery, comfort and weight. Just a few hundred grams can make a huge difference, so that's why people are obsessed with it.

Of course, road bikes raced at the top level have a weight limit which is quite easy to hit nowadays, even with power meters on. But there is no such weight limit Sportives/Fondos etc.

FS vs HT mtb is irrelevant as a comparison.

To the feel - it definitely can, to performance - nope.
