I have ridden on mavic 717 rims with Panracer Fire tyres for years on my hardtail, but I now have them on my Orange 5 and I keep getting punctures. What are people riding with? I was thinking of going for a 819 tubless setup and a heavier tyre. I feel that some tyres seem to be getting weaker in the side walls these days. Some of my punctures are thorns and some snakebites, but everytime I go out I get a flat. Not looked to see what is was on Sunday, but how do you get a puncture on snow covered ground.

I find thicker or bigger tubes help prevent punctures in my experience.

Just checked Sundays puncture and it is a single hole in the centre of the tyre. I am running 60psi as I like my tyres hard.

no point recommending tubeless with sealant then.

i had a spate of this with xcpros – it carried on for a couple of weeks before i realised the waterways boards had clipped all the hedges. no problems since. one thing i do know is that rubber can get v brittle in cold temperatures….

60psi? Might as well use solid tyres.
