Replacement (or repair of) grill handle

We’ve a Gorenje grill / oven with a removable wire handle on the grillpan. It recently split at the point where it’s welded / tacked / joined, as per this image:

I’ve got a soldering iron, but somehow I doubt that will be enough to fix this. I don’t have access to a welder or any other metalwork equipment, but can ask around – the question is how would thie be fixed, or where would I find a replacement?

If you’ve got no welder maybe a bit of steel wire, wrapped round a few times and then twisted with pliers to tension and fix (you could use solder to seal/fix it a bit if you wanted too). Won’t be the prettiest but should work.

This – I never use a grill handle. Also, I am sure there are universal handles available.

I would probably either wind with wire as suggested above, or get a small jubilee clip if you can get one small enough & use that to close up the gap.

It would at least do as a temporary fix.

Yeah, if you’re not bothered about aesthetics, a small jubilee clip would do the job fine, I think. I have one here you can have for nowt if you’re passing through.

I’ve a box full of jubilee clips of varying sizes thanks. Will see how that suggestion is received

Thanks for the link to the “official” part, I think a new pan will be the choice if the jubilee clip is not deemed suitable

We’ve got two unused grill pan handles (that are frankly just getting in the way), you can have one of them if you like. They’re from a Stoves grill, but you’re welcome to give them a go.

Just had a quick look and yes, universal handles are available. Get one from Amazon and send it back if it doesn’t work.

Also, how about using Sugru for a fix?

Do you not know of a man in a shed who does small scale metal fabrication in your local area? That looks like the sort of job where a spot of TIG weld woud be a moment’s work and happily swapped for a packet of biscuits…

I have a similar question that I’ve been meaning to post, only it’s the grill pan rail which is coming loose. Getting to the back of it inside the cooker looks to be a massive job, if there’s a temperature-proof equivalent of that scoobydoo stuff then I’m all ears.

I wouldn’t have thought so – the join is quite close to where you hold it and therefore shouldn’t get too hot. Anyway, it was just an alternative suggestion – I think wrapping in wire is the best solution – do both sides and make them nice and tidy wraps and it would look like a deliberate design accent.

Or metal cable ties. I must admit that I have never come across these before – I wish they existed (or I had known of their existence) 35 years ago when I was trying to hold together my fast-dissolving Mini 1275GT.
