Just out of interest is fibre available in your area if so just dump it and go FTTP

I wish. We’re miles from the cabinet, and get 13mB on a very good day, typically more like 10.

According to the Openreach guy who was here to fix a previous problem (the connection on the pole was faulty, and he fessed up that he’d done it’s couple of weeks earlier), FTTP is only months away though. Dunno how true that is, but here’s hoping

Out of curiosity why did you have a previous egineer out? Cant believe he left all that wiring in situ, and at least not upgraded the nte🤷🏼‍♂️

The broadband went reeeeeeeally slow for us and next door, and after a few days I rang it in. He came out next day, admitted he’d been doing some work on the pole a couple of days before and had left a dodgy connection. He basically fixed that bit and didn’t look at anything else as, I suppose, he knew what the problem was before he even got here.
