I’m looking to get a fiamma bike rack for the rear doors of my Renault trafic. As the fiamma rack requires both wheels to be on the bike, does this mean that LLS bikes are now too long. Has anyone experienced this issue with trafic, Vito, transporter sized vans?

What is an acceptable ‘overhang’ on each side of the van.

An alternative is a ‘wheel off’ rack. Are there any good ones out there?

If you are able to rotate your forks 180 degrees that may work.

I work on the idea that the bike/s don’t protrude more than my wing mirrors ( VW T5 with barn doors).

I would work on the assumption that provided the bike doesn’t stick out further than your wing mirrors you should be OK.

My bikes only long ish, and pokes out the side of my Berlingo. The only note I could find was this, so I presume anything under a foot each side is fine.

Over 305mm lateral projection on either side

Two clear working days notice to Police (C&U schedule 12, para 4), Marker boards front and rear (C&U Schedule 12, para 3), Additional lights required during hours of darkness or poor visibility.

I was a bit concerned about the weight limits on those racks, and the effect on hinges (my Trafic is barn doors). I just couldn’t resolve this caution so went with a towbar rack instead.

Of course, the same question arises. I’ve assumed door mirror width.

If you get the rack that fits onto one of the doors your problem won’t be overhang so much but centering the bikes. We used to have one of those and in order to overcome the problem I had to remove the wheel channels, fix some 20mm unistrut to the rack frame and reattach the wheel channels to the unistrut. We now have a towbar mounted rack

Yep I have a Traffic with an up and over door and went for a towbar rack after having similar thoughts to scotroutes. My Longitude with 3″+ tyres is a lengthy beast and I can see a bit of each tyre in the wing mirrors but I’ve never had a problem so far.
