Trying to take the crank arm off a brand new bike. Cant seem to get the 14mm nut to turn. Before I give it  the beans, is it clockwise or counter clockwise i should be turning it?

this is before I get round  to using the crank extractor tool btw

    thanks

what’s the 14mm nut – do you mean the crank bolt that threads into the end of the axle or something else ?

It’s normal thread on the crank bolt anti-clockwise to undo

It’s anti-clockwise like any normal nut/bolt. It’s the bottom bracket cup on the drive side that has the left hand thread thing going on.

14mm nut? What kind of new bike is it?? 14mm bolt is more common on square taper BB, or Allen bolt.

I assue 14mm nut is one of these?

Much less common than usual 8mm hex like this

Try giving the whole lot a bit of heat shock with a boiling kettle, and/or a blow torch if you arent looking to save the crank. Then hang off it with a breaker-bar. Anti-clockwise is the way.

I think you’ll find that the 14mm bolts are much more common than the Allan bolts. Not necessarily on your bike, but on bikes in general. Anti-clockwise, give it a hard time. Remove the washer before screwing in the puller.

    Older Shimano are 15 mm.

Interesting, been pulling cranks for 30 years and never seen that.

No, they’re not.  But Campagnolo was.  Shimano has always been 14mm.
