    Quite.

    “Here’s a job to do.”

    “How long did it take?”

The only time measure i have is if i managed to complete all the relevant tasks this quarter/this year or not. Though if i finish them *really* quickly, i do tend to go and pick something else up as well. Helps that a) the jobs actually interesting b) my manager gives me *loads* of freedom to do what i want, when i want and c) i get paid well.

My manager decided that the one and only metric for our team should be hours spent, despite my numerous protests that hours had no relation to value, and that such a metric just encourages and rewards busy work. Anyway, I’m leaving that team.

Chain a spoon to the wall, worked for us.

Or drill holes in the spoon to dissuade anyone bothering to steal it.

*do so after 5pm so it looks like you worked late. Good chance you`ll get a bigger bonus at end of year to buy some more spoons too.

    My manager

Another one that thought Dilbert was a management guide.

Yup, bob’s post about contract clauses, performance reviews, promotions, pay rises and bonuses is how it’s worked in every job I’ve had.

It’s been an interesting thread of the public and private sector workers each thinking the other is mad ?

We have both types of contracts, luckily mine has a competency model so it’s not a case of how far your nose is up your group heads shitter.

Well, as an employee that’s fantastic. Imagine how many novels you’d get through by turning up at the office and doing **** all else for eight hours.
