Having some bone removed from my elbow next week so thinking I will need to wear some protection for a while afterwards. Only XC stuff so comfort is most important. Thinking D30 style – any recommendations please?

G form are super comfy, light but more importantly don’t put pressure on your joint IME. They size up spot on too. I wear them in preference for XC rides as I was having a knee issue with 661s pressing my knee cap and making it sore behind my knee cap. Just invested in the elbow pads having had the bulkier very comfortable Leatt 3D pads that now constantly slip down and are not washable ( think the silicon strip that holds them up is contaminated with old sweat/skin cells).

Gform are as comfy as an arm warmer but they don’t inspire in protection terms, very thin, they can slide around a bit. Very good for minimalism though, I like mine but they feel like they have their place.

I love my POC Bones- the hard plastic ones. Counterintuitive but they’re very comfortable, despite being massive- the design means they don’t really need to be held in place, they lobster around your arm and stay where they’re put in a crash so the straps are very slack. And the protection is absurd. You’d think they’d be hot to wear but again, the design means they don’t need to be as enclosing as most arm pads so they’re no warmer than the Gforms, might actually be slightly less.

The downside is you look like a fanny.

Just picked up some of the new POC Air knee/elbow pads from Merlin.

First time out with them on Saturday, genuinely forgot about the elbow pads. Could feel the knee pads but not in a bad way (don’t normally wear pads). Size guide is spot on too.

After I had my elbow rebuilt (fractured Olecranon) I bought some 661 Evo pads.
Really comfy with the soft D30 padding, well fitted, without any pressure points. Not too warm either.
I still have them in the shed, size Small, drop me a mail if interested.

Cheers all (well, nearly all 🙂 ).

Doom Mountain, I’m having a bone spur removed from my olecranon. Will have to check the size guide but thanks for the offer.

Bit like what bike size ie whatever fits properly regardless of brand. I went round all my local and not so local bike shops to try on whatever was in stock. Sadly ended up ordering stuff from CRC, basically to try on but eventually to buy because they fitted. Old stock RaceFace.
