I still see the lovely uniformed ladies that came to the NachtmahR gig in Dublin last Saturday when I close my eyes (when I’m alone in bed 🙂 ).

You Tube will help, NachtmahR, Einsturzende Neubauten, Rammstein (if you really push), maybe some Maybach, generally Cold Spring Records bands.

Yes please! I dropped out of the Industrial/Digital Hardcore scene a few years ago would be good to change from Pitchshifter old Rammstein and ATR 🙂

I know you’re already more than aware of Atari Teenage Riot, but new album out later this year.

Additionally, I think there’s a London show and maybe some others in April.

Really new ATR?! jeez thought Carl Crack was sectioned or something?! Haven’t heard anything since Alec Empire’s solo stuff!

I think I prefer the German/Austrian take on the style.

    In that case… KMFDM

KFMDM, Front Line Assembly, Eisbrecher, Reign of Light-era Samael or older Fear Factory (or the remixes) if you want stuff that’s a bit hybridy.

Skinny Puppy, OhGr, Sheep On Drugs…
And you should check out Strapping Young Lad. Not really Industrial, but razor sharp, noisy and brutal 😀

It depends on my mood I think the German/Austrian style stuff is a bit more tunefull/melodic and isn’t quite as aurally Gnaarr as the more digitally stuff but I grew up following Pitchshifter in a nearly stalker kind of way so most of my collection is on that end of the scale.

+1 for Strapping Young Lad, especially City.

This is THE industrial anthem of all time IMHO.

    Front 242 – Headhunter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPpUFBVSyWs

Industrial is a very broad and not very easy to define category and can include Electronic Body Music like Nitzer Ebb (one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen across all genres) or some types of Electro bands such as

    Aiboforcen – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM0lm3M1350&playnext=1&list=PLA4E7DD64727C01B3

    Glis – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg2AuMG8W2c

    Seize – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bukb2vPUJ4o

Takes me back to the Kandi Club, Bristol back in the day.

    Love it.

Zulu – that KMFDM track is ace.

BigGraham – not sure Therapy? were industrial, were they? One of the best gigs I went to was them at the Northampton Roadmender club in 1991. I *think* they were supported by Silverfish and Gallon Drunk IIRC.

Probably not strictly Industrial no, but everyone I hung about with in the late nineties liked themn as much as “proper” industrial so I have always attributed honorary status to them! Yeh they were supposed to be mental live, I never got to see them but I spent many years waiting for a Therapy?/ One Minute Silence/ Pitchshifter triple header gig to happen but probably a good thing it never did or I might have exploded!

Carl Crack died of a heroin OD, but ATR’s line-up was always something of a moveable feast with Alec the only constant feature.

They’ve got Nic Endo back now as Hanin Elias backed out of the reunion in spite of the fact that she is alleged to have been the driving force behind it. Nic Endo contributed more vocals to ATR though and is at least as dynamic a performer as her.

CX Kidtonik has joined to perform MC duties and he’s a force of nature. I watched them at Southampton Talking Heads back in November and they were most definitely not just going through the motions….looking forward to hearing the new record as a result.

I never got to see them

I think I saw them twice, but can’t remember where second time round (91 was the first time).

Very good, but I guess I’m still stuck in the early sound (up to Shortshapshock) Must give them another listen – wonder what’s on my iPod?

Sounds good, ATR was the one band who I ever got banned from listening to at home (admittedly playing raverbashing and midijunkies full blast at 3am getting home from the Villa was never gonna be taken well by the parents!) will have to check out the new stuff.

OMITN – just checked wikipedia and they’re still releasing albums, that gives me more stuff to catch up on! think tonight might have to have an amazon download session to catch up on 5 years of not going to gig’s 8)

EDIT – just decided the commute home will be soundtracked by Infotainment and Delete yourself – prepare for a speeding ticket thread in the morning!

I used to have an awesome techno album, circa 93-94ish ? where the whole thing was recorded from Formula 1 samples.

Sadly I can’t remeber the name of it otherwise I’d link you to it.

    Bit useless aren’t I 😳

Just remembered an incredible single called ‘You Suck’ by the charmingly named Yeastie Girls, it’s a heartbreaking account of the protagonist’s attempts to get her selfish boyfriend to return certain favours.

Also, not strictly industrial, but any love for PWEI here?

That was my first ever gig, Galaxian Patrol Tour 1992 at Guildford Civic Hall. Thanks to my 18 year old cousin for inviting the 12 year old me along!

This thread takes me back …

Following the lighter side of ‘industrial’ and not dissimilar to KMFDM were ‘My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult’ – Kooler than Jesus

Am glad I stumbled across this thread… I’ve just put some kmfdm on which I haven’t heard in a loooong time, and it’s got me digging through some old tunes…

    :o)

Ooooh.. and I just found a copy of Probot too.. excellent..

bravo.. I was at that gig at Poppies gig at GCH, I think I might have even worked it! Saw them again when they toured back in 2005.. cracking gig even if they did keep forgetting the words!!!

I seem to recall Depeche Mode dabbling in this in the mid eighties, they had lost all credibility in the UK, but were still massive in mainland Europe, particularly Germany. Also, Einsturzende Neubaten and possibly Die Haut IIRC.

Mode introduced many-a-person to the more melodic side of Industrial. They were often supported by bands of that sort – like Nitzer Ebb. I got into Front 242 and the like because of being heavily into DM. I wouldn’t class them as Industrial though.

Die Krupps always seem to get overlooked. More recently, Spetsnaz are very good. As are Kommand+Kontrol – who coincidentally are supporting Nachtmahr on some UK dates

What about Godflesh? Some of the later Prong stuff veered towards an industro-metal sort of sound too.
