Spoiled for choice in Bristol – Bike UK, Psyclewerx, Bristol Bike Workshop, Evans, Spesh concept store, Strada, Zero G, Jake’s Bikes and Mud Dock are all good shops within 10 minutes of the centre.

Further out of town Bools in Fishponds and Webbs of Warmley are both nice little shops run by top people.

Cadence, John’s Bikes and Avon Valley Cycles in Bath are ace too.

Highly Recommended –
Red Ape Bikes in Bishop Auckland – Gavin is helpful and friendly – everyone who I’ve recommended them to has been very happy.
Bikesport in Darlington – bit expensive but very helpful

Sort of local – Westbrook Cycles in Stokesley is pretty good.

The polar opposite compared to Iron Horse in Darlington and Cycleways in Newton Aycliffe who I avoid like the plague.

+1. Don’t use them much myself as I do my own spannering nowadays but I recommend them to others and the feedback has always been very good.

Bummer, forgot to mention them when I wrote my bit. Great coffee there too!!

Moose Cycles in Colliers Wood. Build good wheels, good mechanic and generally just helpful (even if I’m having a bad day and just can’t get the mudguard off to fix a puncture!)

Also pretty good on unbiased advice – they don’t try to sell me what they’ve got in stock if they don’t think it’s the right answer, which is very unusual in my experience (female asking advice in a bike shop…)

My LOCAL LBS is Evans HQ :|. Know loads of people who work there so do use them for bits.

Unfortunately as far as spanner men/wheel builders are concerned, the only two I’ve regularly used are 45+ mins away in opposite directions. – Don’t use anyone closer

Revolver in Bourg Saint Maurice is my usual choice. Stephane doesn’t carry loads of stock, but he’s great for advice and will get most repairs done “next-day”.

Intersport (just next door) have been really good this season as well. Good bunch of mechanics in their bike section, been really helpful to us and a few of our clients.

Greenwheel Cycles – Peterborough

A new shop with LOTS of enthusiasm and great service – recently had an ongoing issue with a shock I sent away, via them, to get serviced (and was damaged by the service centre), and they have been really helpful and fought my corner all the way. You may think it’s their job to as I paid them BUT I’ve had previous similar situations where other shops don’t give a toss after they’ve got your cash, or moan and grumble when you want aftersales service….

The only bike shop I` d feel confident to do work on my bike is The BikeShed in Cardiff not so much a LBS here in Caerphilly .. but worth the 15 min drive.

Nevis cycles in Fort William have a superb workshop, and the staff are pretty friendly. Def worth the slight detour if you’re up this way

Westbrook Cycles in Stokesley (North Yorkshire)

Great service, they are always getting me fiddly bits and pieces in that they probably make no money on. So if I have big money to spend it goes there.

Dave’s Cycles in Aldridge.

I have never been that keen on them they always seem to treat me as a noob. That is why I never use them unless I have no other choice even though they are by far my closest LBS. I prefer to travel to Swinertons at the Chase they really are good so friendly, they do have one lad that is a couple of sarnies short of a picnic but he is friendly enough.

Spoilt for choice here, Paul Hewitts at the bottom of the road, Bill Nickson in the town centre, Merlins a couple of miles away and the missus has just started working for the leisure lakes so will hopefully be making use of her staff discount soon.

Yep, the Twelve50 lads are boss. Pretty much everything you’d want from a bike shop. Allthough I did not know about the beer….

Another recommendation for The Bike Chain in Edinburgh. Great shop with great staff.

Also have to mention Basecamp Bikes at Laggan. They saved the start of my stag weekend! Turned up from Edinburgh and realised that I had forgotten my SPD shoes. They kindly lent me a pair of flat pedals. And also allowed me access to their first aid kit when I picked up some nasty trail rash. Service above and beyond! Excellent.

+1 for JE James (Sheffield)

The absolute bestest LBS I’ve ever had, ever. No fuss, no worries, always very helpful to the point of awesomeness, excellent value, masses of stock.

The best thing about them is that they never once tried to tell me what they thought I should buy / do. They just let me buy stuff off them and hand stuff over occasionally for very rapid fixing. In essence, all you need from an LBS.

Shame I now live 180 miles away 🙁

Twelve50 Bikes, Frodsham. Even though I didn’t get any bloody beer. Royles in Wilmslow have helped me out with some pretty obscure stuff recently.

I cannot recommend Chris of b-spoked cycles enough, mobile bike mechanic, SW London based – picks up and drops off at my work.

Cleans my bike before and after it goes into his workshop – its like its had a showroom valet every time it is serviced. I think he may have OCD.
