Trying to fit one of these onto my Mega AM this morning but cant get the chainring bolts I removed from the 32T ring into the tapped holes. The holes look like they are tapped properly but the bolts will only go about 1/2 a turn before going tight. Do I need another type of chainring bolt or is it just the anodizing on the ring? Thought I would ask before I run any taps through and wreck it!

Mine went straight in with existing XT chainring bolts. If you’ve got the right tap it wouldn’t hurt to run it through as there could be a small burr on the thread.

Cheers stevied. Off to shed now to have a proper look.

IIRC chairing bolts are a rather fine pitch M8 thread, M8x0.75?

Doubt you’ll have the correct tap to hand unless you are a bike shop…

Have you tried the ring with any other bolts? Just as as a process of elimination thing…

Or have you tried running the bolts in from the back, to eliminate a burr at the start of the thread?

My RF bolts went straight in, as did my xt.

Thanks all. No way the original bolts were going in but pinched some off an old XT crankset and they were perfect. Away we go!

Okay then got the 30T on but the X0 chain device fitted is only suitable for 36-32 rings so the top guide had to come off. Has anyone had issues dropping the chain without this? Got NW chain ring and a clutch mech so it should be ok right?

Not dropped chain once with 30t + Zee clutch mech.

Nope no dropped chain with Race a Face NW and a non clutch rear mech even!
