I’ve picked up a bargain second hand Rohloff hub/wheel shifters etc. I’m just not entirely sure how to install it. Willing to give it a go myself. Can I retrofit some sort of Alternator drop out as mine was pre 2014 when they appear to of have come as standard or do I have to use a dummy rear mech for chain alignment?

Rohloff do have specific fitments for attaching to regular drop outs (I think they’re called speedbone or monkeybone) and for chain tension.

Do a google, you may have the bits with the kit you bought or you may not. But you could easily enough find them on ebay etc.

For gearbox torsioning, you need a Speedbone which bolts onto IS brake callipers, but if you’re using an adaptor for post-mount brakes, a Monkeybone covers both purposes.

I think you’re talking about chain tension here, so yes, you need a tensioner. I’ve fitted my Rohloff to track-ends, sliding dropouts, and EBB and realised in the end, my preferred choice is vertical dropouts and a tensioner. I use a Surly Singleator on my Fortitude:

Rohloffed Fargo = super-tourer! should be awesome, you will need a chain tensioner tho.

Surly and many others are available and should work ok if they have chainline adjustment. I have a used Rohloff one in a box in the garage if you want it, £20? guaranteed to fit ;0)

Hmm. Looking at the shifters that came with the hub etc it looks as if they are for a flat bar arrangement? Standard supplied I’m guessing. How do I get them to work with my wood chipper drops? Would it be easier to put a flat bar on the Fargo? Or would that ruin the handling perhaps?

Ah, presumed you’d already crossed that hurdle.

Good catalogue of options here… cyclingabout[/url]
