Punched in the face at Swinley…

A warning to you all…

So I was out on a group ride today, went round a corner I know to be blind very slowly and collided with another rider coming the other way on the trail. I realised pretty quickly I was fine, got up and went to see if he was ok. He got up and unleashed a tirade of swearing, then hit me in the face. I was staggered by this reaction so didn't react. I tried to say that he can't go around behaving like this, to which he said "What you gonna do about it" and rode off. Although he is a cock, sadly he has a good point. Although there were 4 of use and one (rather large) of him, we were all wearing team kit with shop names etc plastered all over it. Not exactly the most subtle outfit to choose when you kick the crap out of someone. Plus, we were all just open-mouthed with what had just happened.

Perhaps Broadmoor left the gates open this morning.

P.S. Yes I have told the Police, for what it's worth, and the Lookout visitor centre. They said they do have CCTV on the car park, but I doubt the Police will be arsed to look at it, even though there can't be many stocky 6'3" white people riding a Giant full-sus bike leaving the car park between 8am and 10am. Of course, he may not have parked there but you never know.

Team kit or not, if someone hit me or someone I was riding with I'd have sat on him. If he struggled I'd have subdue him. **** totally uncalled for. Injustice sets me off.

6'3" or so – I'm 6'1" and he was taller than me. Stocky build, not fat. Dark hair. White. British.

follow up the CCTV with the Vistors centre- make sure they dont delete/over record on it. Seriously- pop down and sit through it. See if you can identify anyone unloading it into a car. Its common assault.

That is shocking. What a dick. In any event you and your mates would have been entirely justified in punching him back, if you're being assaulted you don't need to lie down and take it, justified force and 3 witnesses…

I've reported it to the Police and spoken to the Manager at the centre. She said they do have CCTV but it would be up to the Police to request to look at it.

When the shop I used to work at was broken into, the Police arranged for a CCTV camera to be aimed at it in case of repeat burglaries. When the criminals came back a few weeks later, with the camera still pointing at the shop, the Police said there was no film in the camera and hence no footage of the second break in either…

My opinion of your common or garden Police officer is not really repeatable, so I don't expect them to be able to work out anything in this case either. They're just bloody useless. The only reason I reported it to the Police and the Lookout is in case it happens again/has happened before.

I think its a pretty poor show from the manageress at the Look Out, she should have offered to go through the CCTV with you and then you could present that to the police once youd spotted the bloke getting into his car.

If they've scrubbed the CCTV I'd sit in the carpark next weekend. This fella needs to feel some bloody heat.

Reminds me of the time a mate at college had his walkman taken off of him on the bus home. We rode that sodding bus for a week afterwards waiting for them 👿

now i,m not a violent man but if i was in your position and got punched not only should you have retaliated but i,d have made him tell me where he lives and i,d have gone and bashed his dog to death with its own kennel

It wasn't a matter of letting him – it was a matter of being so stunned by what happened I was just at a loss as for what to do! I would have reacted differently in a bar/on the street etc. I've just never encountered anything like this with a mountain biker.
