“Continental are offering a pair of their brand new Grand Sport Race tyres in return for a pair of old tyres (any non Continental brand) with a pair of inner tubes worth £71.88. The promotion runs until 31st July at selected dealers and some sportives, and they’re only asking you to complete a feedback form on the new tyres in return for their generosity.”

Spoke to my lbs – said they had 4 messages on the answer phone about this before they’d even opened this morning. And no spare workshop bookings til second week of June. Said the best idea is to try on Saturday morning, joining the queue.
Not allowed to fit them yourself, and they will charge for labour.

    Rule5 Bikes near me tweeted;

A lot of calls about the @ContiTyres amnesty – we don’t know how many pairs or when we’re getting them, call us and we’ll put you on the list

did wonder but no mention of that in the article so figured it would be covered by continental.
Quite a long way from “free” tyres then.

Just phoned the nearest store to me (Sigma Sport) and they said their name “had appeared by mistake” on the Conti website, no slur on the shop who were most helpful, but glad I phoned before making a trip across Surrey 😕

road.cc reporting some people being charged £20 which still seems like a bit of a bargain if you have a knackered set of road tyres you can slap on the bike before you go?

ooh, they’ll be at the dartmoor classic. might be worth registering the day before…

hopefully go some way to stopping abuse of this and them appearing on ebay or STW for a profit then 😉

Cant see any reputable bike shop charging too much for “labour” really. Doesn’t exactly take very long to just cut the old tyres and tubes off and put on some new ones.

Longer than it would to remove them conventionally via tire levers though. 😉

You need a sharper Stanley knife then trail_rat 😀

HSE would suggest you need to get faster at removing tires 😀

cyclegarage.co.uk listed as a participating dealer when they’re not.

I can imagine they’ll a) get lots of calls/visitors and b) bear the brunt of peoples disappointment when it turns out they can’t help.

My closest (participating) shop said £15 to fit and I have to call back next Tuesday to see if he’s got anything left as he has 8 people coming down in the next couple of days…..

    Big thanks to GrahamS

Got mine this morning, £10 to fit

Yes cheers got mine too, £14 to fit which I definitely don’t begrudge the dealer but Continental should be making it clear in the terms which they don’t. Also the tyres are not GP4000/4season standard but rather a made in China version with different rubber.
Gonna pop them on the spare bike see how we get on.

My new LBS had clearly ‘reserved’ his allocation for his mates

2 more I rang on the list were not taking part. List has now gone from press release……

In the press release it says that once the tyre allocation has gone after June 1st there will be no more – well its May the 27th so that would suggest that they can get more but aren’t bothering

Well done to those that get some but I reckon this could have been handled better

I got mine this morning. Was a bit tight on time so in the end he just gave me them to take away. Happy Days!

After 8000km puncture free on Conti GP4seasons these managed a 20k round trip to the pub and punctured on the way home.
    I conclude their crap.

You must feel so hard done by not getting free tyres 😉

How rude of them to save the free tyres for the people who spend the most money in their shop

I managed to drop into the LBS today for the first time since noticing they were on this list – couldn’t help think of this thread when hearing of some of the behaviour that accompanied this giveaway. One woman apparently tried it on for more than one pair, claiming her company had organised a lengthy ride and she wanted a new pair of tyres for the event as well as for her other, ‘sporty’ bike. Kicked off when refused and didn’t get why she should pay for the fitting.

    Some folk…

I got mine. Basically paid the fee for fitting and got new tyres and tubes in return. In effect….a bargain.

The mechanic fitting the cassette in the pics on that site is my mate, he’s handy with a set of spanners but never rides conti tyres.

I had nothing but punctures with conti’s previously so I’ll stick with the Michelin tyres I paid for, but work.

It does seem like a great deal all the same.
