1100 feet of climb in a 10 mile rides is dam hilly. Anything close to 100 feet of climb per mile I consider a very hilly ride.

Agreed, 100 ft/mile is my threshold for a hilly ride.

I think I’m not slow but this time of year only average about 17 on my 15 mile commute to work
I used to make an effort to train a little more rather than just ride and got much faster 22 average
But this year I can’t be bothered

Holding the bars in the middle and adopting a mild tuck position makes a huge difference to the drag on a mountain bike, I can generally go up one gear by doing so.

I’m pleased with anything over 15mph on a road bike too. I do live in derbyshire tho’ and 6-800 ft per 10 miles is normal.

Did rather surprise myself with 14.4mph for 19 road miles around Shap on the Anthem – road legs do seem to make a difference

Proof that I’m unfit? I could be fitter

    🙂
And get some climbing practice in if you’re going to Torridon!
