I really liked the 2018 version. Probably because of Olivia Munn.

LOVE the original but every sequel since has just got worse. 2018 one is absolute dogshit (almost makes the Adrian Brody one look good).

How can they get something with so much potential for awesomeness so wrong EVERY TIME. So also: Alien(s).

Aliens bucks the trend of sequels being awful coz that is an ace movie.

What makes the original for me is that isn’t just a Schwarzenegger movie, well it is, but it’s so much more. It’s the ensemble cast that makes it, Arnie is just one of the gang.

1987 was Arnie’s prime time; Terminator was out 3 years previous, along with Commando and The Running Man released just before Predator, all his movies up until then were just him blasting his way through things and making cheesy jokes. Then there’s Predator and it just stands head and shoulders above all his other movies of the era!

I was listening to the Retro Ramble podcast (overlong, shit production values, enthusiasm more than makes up for it though 😂) recently and they made exactly that point. The last 1/3 or so of the movie is basically just Arnie vs Pred but before that, unusually for an 80s action flick, pretty well fleshed-out characters sharing a lot of screen-time.

It was abysmal. Laughably bad. It made Men in Black seem like The Thing. I’d say it’s easily the worst one of all the guff they’ve churned out since the original.

Nope. Tremors is a good quality comedy B-movie. I’d put it next to Critters and Gremlins.

Predator is absolutely cold blooded in comparison.

I quite liked the Adrian Brody one. Not a patch on the original. Better than the other sequels and spinoffs which is damning it with faint praise really. The last one was horrendous.

The thing is with the first one you genuinely don’t know wtf is going on to start with and that’s a big part of why it is so good. Impossible to repeat too.

I knew these men, Green Berets out of Fort Brag…..

Ace film, one of my favourites and still stands up today.

Didn’t mind the Brodie one and remember a Predator/Alien film that was reasonable but brutal.

Am gonna have me some fun…….

The Thing and the prequel are bloody good too.
