Sorry, I’m sure there’s been a thread on this but I can’t find it.

Anyway, I need to find a replacement fairly quickly for my commutey-tourey-winterey-roady frame. The Stelvios are currently on ‘sale’ at P-X. Anyone got one? Any good?

    And I appreciate I’ll be running the Planet-X gauntlet…

My bother got one and cycled to Morocco last year.

Faultless was his description but, he’s not massively into bikes and suspect wouldn’t know if it was any good or not.

It just did the job as far as he was concerned.

Interesting, ta. I bet anyone riding to Morocco would know by the end if their bike was any good, regardless of their bike knowledge at the start. Doing the job is all I need really.

Bought one, sent it back as although ticked the boxes was quite crudely made and the paint was poor. Id go a bit further and check either the Camino Al or Arkose 4 frameset on offer at tbe moment.

    There was this thread-

I bought an Elan which is pretty similar, and have been happy with it as a winter bike.

Yup still have mine, super stable, weighs a tonne, it’s a tourer not a gravel bike. Paint holding up fine on mine and no issues with it. Did Ride London on it last year – super comfy

Even ar RRP it’s cheap and bound to be heavy, albeit stiffness is what counts when loaded. (I’ve swtiched to alu for my commutter/tourer).

Hmm, they also have the Full Monty frame for £100, and I could use my existing fork…

Have you considered and ruled out the bargaintastic ~9Kg http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/boardman-hybrid-bike-pro-45-49-54cm-frames ? BC discount makes it £675 and there’s several reports of a further ~10% discount for taking the showroom model.

I’d be quite happy with a Boardman, but I only need a frame and I don’t really want to spend more than £150.

There’s some second hand Boardman frames on eBay that would be just the job, but they’re either too small or too big, grr.

It’s steel, double butted, decent geometry, and the finish doesn’t really matter at that price.

Almost like a flash version of the Pompino which is a perfectly cromulent bike.

I reckon it will build up into a nice bike perfect for the purpose you want. Hard to beat steel for that job.

Look after it, and it will still be going when the oil runs out.

Basically the modern version of this

(And plenty of those still running well after 80 years)

Full Monty is fine. Handles nicely and is comfortable.

Well, slight thread revival, but after a few days of dithering I’ve just ordered a Stelvio. Let’s see how it goes…
