    😆

I lived close enough to morningside to know that Edinburgh is in Surrey

Live in Callander, good places to ride right on doorstep. In summer (the 2 weeks it doesn’t rain) the place is really busy. On the pub front there are almost more pubs here than shops (local off licence has shut down). lots of non-scottish accents so no one stands out, except everyone knows everyone (the usual small town situation)

Callander would be lovely if it weren't for the hordes of middle-aged-but-still-wearing-tracksuit-trousers Weegies who descend on it every summer weekend, while their tattooed offspring spend the weekend drinking cheap lager and throwing up in Aviemore.

Only joking……though there is an small element of truth to that. Nice bakers though, The Scotch Oven, or whatever it's changed its name to.

Closer to the truth then you would imagine, normally find most down at the waters edge eating fish and chips (tasty fry the best) and complaining about the price at over £5 a fish supper. Scotch oven now mhor bread still gets good reputation.

I'm rather surprised that Denny has not been mentioned yet.

Eh? What happened to the legendary Ben Ledi Cafe? Fond memories of queuing for their magic fish suppers after a days skiing at The Coe…

IIRC Denny's on the up and up – new school and that awful concrete centre to be torn down and replaced.

    It'll still be a dump.

    Why's that then Steve?

    dear oh dear!

you live in Scotland, quit bitching about which bits are better than others and just sit smug in the glow of knowing that it's ALL better than England*

*my opinion, yours may differ, your opinion of England may go up as well as down

I'm an escapee from that area but go back to visit family who're still there. It was a dump when I lived there and, even with a fresh lick of paint, it'll remain a dump. Some nicer areas nearby though – up the Carron Valley for example.

I'd be another to cast a vote for the Tasty Fry. Great chippy.

And despite me being a bit cheeky about Callander, I do actually love the place.

Hmmmm that's a bleak old picture you paint. I think you're wrong actually…

As a fully paid member of the rough town residents club I concur that Denny is a dump. Does appear to be n the up though. Didn't know the centre was getting torn down. Good news.

Ben Ledi cafe now mhor fish. Good if you want to sit down and have a fish tea. Owned by same guys that own mhor bread and the monacle mhor up by balquidder. ormally find the best chippy by the size of the queue of high school kids at lunch time!! The ones without queues don't taste that nice.
