@jamesco – will the 2016 1×10 Arkose 2 stay lime green, or will it also be blue like the 2×10 version?
    Thanks!

No cable/hose running under the downtube on the new models as far as I can see. That’s good. Also seems to be Crud catcher mounts. I like. Hard to mount a crud catcher on my 2015 model.

    @jameso: Thanks for clarification. 🙂
I read between the lines, that 1×10 was not THAT sales-burner, right? Oh, if people only knew, how nice that is… 😀

    jameso,
What’s the axle configuration on the Arkose 3 & 4 – is it through axle on the front & QR rear? TIA!

This year’s Four is qr front and rear, so unless it’s changing for next year…..

No doubt we’ll get forced down the thru axle route but qr is fine for this sort of bike.

Confused by road.cc mentioning a thru-axle on the fork of the 2016 Arkose 4 – linky; scrolll down to Arkose bit – yet picture appears to show QR cap on fork.

Drlex, it’s a maxle, as above. QR rears on all, maxle front on the 4 only.
Nick B, the Arkose 2 1×10 is the same bike, we’ll have stock of the 2015 until early next year.

Thanks! Noticed your participation on the road.cc comments, but this thread has more traffic. 🙂

    Hello

Im hoping someone might be able to shed some light, My friends selling a Arkose 4 in L.
Im 5ft 9 and Im a little worried about sizing, I unfortunately cant test ride is as he doesnt live close and my local Evans only have a M or XL Will a short stem be ok?

Hes selling it cheap as hes emigrating and its a hard one to pass!

    Thanks

Sorry perhaps should add I do ride a Rose Xeon CDX in 55cm with the following setup

    Top Tube = 540
    Stem = 90mm
    Handlebar= 42cm

Also for reference hes wanting £500 for it hence me being interested!

Im interested if you decide the size is wrong – which it is 🙂

i would have thought 5’9″ would be ‘M’ territory.

(6’2″ and very comfy on an XL)

Been to Evans tried a M and it felt right but they did not have any Large in still only XL.
For price I’m really tempted but..

Lad selling says he’s 5ft 9 and it fits him fine but then again he would he leaving for Australia so I don’t have much come back if it doesn’t fit!!

Does is sound sensible that putting a 60mm maybe 70mm stem on the bike would work?
And if it doesn’t my only option is sell and buy the Medium?

Jameso – what is the best selling bike in the range?

I’m really pleased with my Arkose 2 – 10 gears is plenty for the riding I do with it and I love the hydro brakes, which actually was one of the things I liked about it most

I’m 5ft 10 and ride the large. That comes with an 80mm stem, so I wouldn’t have thought a 70mm or 60mm stem would affect things too much – but you are right on the size boundary as you say.

I’m just under 5’10” on a large, but I’m long in the body so needed the reach. If I was in proportion for my height if be in definite medium territory.

5’10” and riding a Medium here. Felels pretty good to me but I haven’t tried a large. Either would probably be ok with a bit of stem tweaking. There’s generally only a cm or two difference in the dimensions.

Buy it, if it doesn’t sell you will easily get your money back, probably make a decent profit.

Anyone got an XL 4 they want to sell me for £500? Thought not.

For what it’s worth I’m 5ft 8 with a 31in inside leg and my medium Arkose fits great. If anything I’m on the edge of a small but I got a secondhand bargain on one so sizing was a forced choice. Incidentally, has anyone else noticed the head badge is just glued on? Mine started coming off so I just removed the thing, weird decision if you ask me, why not just put a decal there instead?
I was buying a frame off someone recently, he was interested in my Arkose, liked the design but apparently wouldn’t consider buying one because it was an Evans in-house brand? Strikes me a bit snobbish. I bloody love it, great bike.

3M tape, pretty standard way to do it. They don’t always get pressed on as hard as I’d like them to and if the dirt / water gets in they’ll never stick. Sorry. PM me if you want a spare.

I wouldn’t have thought a 70mm or 60mm stem would affect things too much

No probs, a bit less weight on the front for hard road corners but great off-road. Better that than going for a 120mm on a Med to stretch it out imo.

Thanks to everyone for replying, Jameso did drop me an email also.
I managed to find a store with a M and L in so took them for a very quick 5 minute ride and I was surprised how well the Large fit me, The medium honestly was the better fit.

I tried the Large and was very surprised how comfy I felt on it, The only issue I found was at reasonable stretch I was slightly short of the hood 10-15mm or so which the stem should sort.
Once moving I was fine, Ive never ridden CX or even Gravel I’m from a MTB only background until earlier this year when I bought my first road bike.
Arkose 4 ticks every box for me I can honestly say i think I should have bought this type of bike rather than the Rose Xeon CDX Di2 Ive got!
I like road riding for fitness and generally feel more rewarding doing a 110mile coast ride in 6:30 hours than the same time in the lakes on the MTB doing 14-15 mile!
Although the MTB rides are always 1000x more better

Also seen another review on Evans for Arkose 2 from someone similiar size than went for large.

“At 5’9” I was between sizes but managed to sit on a couple of arkose bikes (different models though) and decided to get a large then put a shorter stem (70mm) on it.
I’ve still not quite got my position right, being a mountain biker, but over all all its good. I’m enjoying the turn of speed I’m getting from it, handles well on light off road sections, it’s actually even better in mud than the mtb.”

    Thanks again

FWIW – on my medium I’ve put a 1cm longer stem on and wider 44cm bars. Still not sure about the stem though. May go back to the standard length.

Sure I could have gone for a large and a shorter stem too but the medium was closest to my existing road bike geometry.

Jameso, your a legend. I’ve hung onto the badge so won’t need a spare but thanks anyway 😀
The new Pinnacle Dolomites 2016 with the disc brakes look ace, pretty much the perfect winter trainer, knocks the socks of Kinesis’ new disc frames for value – any chance of a frame-set becoming available? (otherwise I may have to buy one!)

They will be, F+F+headset, but it’ll be a couple of months before they’re in.

    Morning All

I’ve ordered a 60mm and 70mm headset and see how it goes for me with a large if it doesn’t work out I`ll have to sell it and use the money to fund a medium.
What angle/rise is the stem on the Arkose Four as stock?

    Cheers

Just completed my C2W application, I’m hoping to be the happy owner of a black Arkose 3 by the end of Nov.

I do a little off road section, less than 2 miles, on the way to work. It’s very bumpy/rattly, I keep losing bolts

Rack bolts, mudguard bolts. I lost a seat bolt, the one that connects the seat to the mount

I now only have 1, grrr. Any idea where I can get another bolt with the right widget to keep it tight? Its an Arkose 2 if that makes a difference

Picked up the bike this morning, Did a quick test ride (10minutes) and it felt pretty good.
Ive ordered two stems (deda zero2 in 60mm and 70mm) so hoping to swap it out with these when they arrive.
Fell in love with the bike and for £500 I couldn’t say no!

I have thought I may look to replace the crankset with a 105 5800 170 to better the fit, but I`ll see how it goes.

Now to go for a proper ride 🙂

Im considering changing tires (maybe WTB nano)

Did my first CX race this weekend on my 2014 Arkose 4 – the bike handled it beautifully, the rider less so! Still, says a lot for the bike that I was happy to race it the first time I took it off road.

I was wondering about tubeless too – I’m trying to work out which is the right Stan’s kit for the Alex ATD490 rims – anybody know? I’m running Specialized Tracer Pro 2Bliss tyres if that makes any difference.

Just for anyone wondering, P50 SKS Chromplastic mudguards won’t fit through the fork with the Nano tyres without some ‘Modification’.

I cut the front section off, leaving a tab to be bolted through into the fork, works fine now.

Apologies if this has been done before, but I can’t trawl through 15 pages… does anyone know if you can fit a 53-39 chainset, or will it foul the chainstays?

Liking mine so much I’m beginning to wonder if I actually need a seperate summer bike for chaingang.

Do we know if there’s an arkose frames et available in 2016 and if so how much?

Worryingly I’ve just received an email from Evans recalling Arkose bikes purchased late 2014. The reason is the rear mech hanger. Email states the hanger should be replaced and the bike not ridden until it’s done. The concern is rear wheel slip.

    Miguelo

Yes,I received the email about the mech hanger recall too. I collected the bike last Thursday evening and received the email when I got home that day 🙁

No way I’m driving for 2 hours (round trip) when they can put one in the post.

    jameso

It’s a ‘to be sure’ replacement. There’s some dropouts that haven’t been machined properly and when we looked at the possible affects of that in combination with a maybe a looser QR it answered why we’d had rear wheel moving in the dropouts reported, so it’s been acted on.

We decided to replace all dropouts because although we can trace frames by batch the dropout inserts aren’t supplied or made 1:1 with frames as it’s a part that other brands/frames use also.

I don’t want to undermine the recommendation not to ride the bike until it’s swapped out but for perspective if you’ve been riding it for a while with no issues it’s unlikely there is an issue, just to be clear and confident moving forwards we felt it best to get them all replaced and not to have to make judgement calls on the part detail. Apologies for any inconvenience though.
