When did colourway start being used so much? Is it an americanism we’ve adopted and spell checked?

I wouldn’t ordinarily ever use the term colourway but thought it appropriate in this instance 😉

@Tom83 You do know that people from countries other than UK contribute to STW? They may see your post as perhaps a bit rude?

Then they would be overly sensitive, and too easily offended. At a guess.

An OTB on that is going to be quite a challenge

Not really, in fact I reckon he could do a year’s worth of OTBs all at once

    Derp breath… Here goes

A colourway is a selection of colours. So you could buy your bike in the green red colourway or the yellow blue.

A colour scheme is about about how colours interact in colour theory. So for example a monochromatic colour scheme let’s say red would only use shades of red the green one… Only shades of green. A complimentary colour scheme could be a red bike with complimentary accents or a yellow bike with complimentary. There are others, triadic  analogous etc

Colour pallet is the set of colours available to use. Primary colours, secondary, tertiary etc.

So you could have a  bike that has

    Monochromatic colour scheme

    Primary pallette

    In three colours.

    Red Blue and Yellow*

*Not green as we are talking about paint here not light

I got a bit jumbled up in pallette and scheme I think, I am not an expert.

    But colourway is legitimate.

    But colourway is legitimate.

That’s an interesting information, but I feel that comes at more from a scientific basis that a term that consumers would use.

I fully accept that the term ‘colourway’ is a legitimate term – just being overly (but not ‘super’ 😉 ) picky about the Americanism.

Having said that, languages evolve (although things that we borrow from our transatlantic cousins are possibly regressions, as their English hasn’t moved on at the same rate as ours)

Anyway, thanks for raising the bar…

I actually meant to say I just use “colour”

But you threw down the pedant gauntlet and I returned fire.

    😀

@davosaurusrex nah I’m not fussed. Thanks though! Almost as good as the assumed rudeness of my honest question in the 1st place. Have a good day dude.
