Nearly all prefocussing – the AF isn’t fast enough. Some of them (if you click thru to the set) are continuous AF mode (ones with panning mostly), but it seems a bit hit and miss. I need to experiment more to work out which situations it works reliably in.

Some I did try AF on, but I was getting more hits with prefocus. It depends a bit what angle you’re shooting at – shooting into the rider up close at (relatively) wide apertures the DoF aint that large, so you miss focus. Other angles where you keep a more constant distance to the rider it’s fine.

Basically use a bit of common sense and you can work it out. In general, the ones where I pre-focussed I probably would’ve on a “proper” SLR too… but then I’ve not tried any of the more modern properly fast AF pro DSLRs.

Amos – that one of your kid is one of the best I’ve seen. Love it.

Nothing fancy, but one of the first shots I’ve taken with my new 550d.

Nice one JohnClimber. I have a somewhat lame claim to fame – one of my pics from work was just used in our local paper. Came out ok and a reasonable size so I’m quite chuffed.

Whoa – I saw that photo of David Felt and thought “oh dear, that’s really underexposed”. Except that I saw it last night and didn’t think that at all. Monitor calibration disaster 🙂

Whilst out checking the northern sky for a aurora borealis, cloud cover started to draw across the moonlit sky.

No aurora borealis but got this pic of the southern sky as the full moon faded from view behind the cloud.

    Pretty proud of it.

Not been taking many shots recently since my photo-a-day odyssey finished in December.

Now on photo-a-week which is proving every bit as difficult…

One of the cooler things I’ve done. Ragging a 360hp Mustang convertable along a dirt road (complete with 1km tunnel for extra BRRRRUM) with the hood down and no other traffic for 30km at 4am, then running up a mountain, standing where Ansel Adams stood, and watching the sun come up (admitidly he wasn’t a retard and got forgot he’d be taking photos into the sun).

I love that pic. Where’d you get the knobcam from?

This thread is about as good as it gets for photography – outstanding. I might have to write a script to download them all and make a DVD or something, then mail them out to STWers.
