Greg, to respond to your last post (Barbara), I don’t think there’s any problem with how you’ve lightened her face. I think where it doesn’t work for me is that her hands are darker than her face. If they were the same tone it would, IMO, look better.

Business trip to Sweden but I was afforded half a day to myself so here are a few from the city most likely to leave you feeling utterly inadequate (fat, ugly and poor):

You’re so right. Thanks for this. Honestly I’d missed that.

Yep – that is a familiar feeling – in Sweden and in DK. Lovely photos as usual.

Only a still from a video cos I couldn’t get the timer to run for long enough. Gloves used as a tripod. 🙂

Not entirely satisfied with it, but I think the technique has promise.

I’ve been in glorious Helsinki. Naturally I had my camera with me though the sun was so strong I had to wait until well after 7pm before I could take anything interesting. A few street portraits for your entertainiment.

If you click through to the Flickr page, I always include a description of how the portrait came to be made.

Swanky new lens, eh Greg? 😀

Here’s an actual riding pic, on my way home from catching a great sunset from the hills.

Thanks! First time I’ve taken it on a ride, but it’s a Manfrotto BeFree. Taken it travelling with me and it’s been pretty good so far.

Er, maybe. Depends on who is asking 😀 If it’s the wife then no, nothing new here, move along please…..

On the other hand it is crazy good. Those above are shot at f/1.4, wide open and they are sublime. It’s just got a tad of softness to make it perfect for portraits. Stop it down to even f/1.8 or f/2 and it’s like a scalpel. I thought that the Batis would be more than enough and that I’d never use the widest aperture of the GM but having done these, in the right situation, I will absolutely use it.

It’s had great reviews, and glad you’re putting it through it’s paces. My option is a little more affordable; just bought myself the Samyang 85/1.4. Not really my usual type of lens, but looking to play around with portraits a bit more and £230 is a bit easier to stomach 😉

Kit might I suggest that ‘To the Lighthouse’ might be a good alternative title?

You can 😉 Any particular reason?

Just because I’m a bit of a book and film buff and I have a habit of my own to make film and literary references when titling my own work. Nice work BTW.

Ah, gotcha (and had to look up the reference!). I hate naming stuff on Flickr, but it’s preferable to DSC001435.jpg or whatever 😀

    And thanks for the compliment!
