Shropshire’s Wandering Trig
This otherwise perfectly unremarkable trigpoint was built on Overley Hill, just north of The Wrekin. When the M54 was extended to form the (now-dual-carriageway) road from Wellington to Shrewsbury, they cut through Overley Hill and the trig had to go. Instead of being cast aside, it was rescued by an employee of a firm of surveyors who were involved in the road-building work, and has spent several years installed right outside their offices in Bayston Hill village near Shrewsbury; in the last couple of years they’ve relocated their operation to Telford, and it’s now living in a shrubbery in the carpark of their new offices on a business park in Hadley. A well-travelled concrete trig pillar.
