Out of date goose fat. Will I die?

It’s fat, surely it can’t hurt you. Simple roast beef with salt and pepper cobs and roasties for dinner.

How out of date is it and is the date ‘best before’ or ‘use by’?

If it’s ‘best before’ and only a few weeks out then go for it.

Already opened. Says use within two weeks. It’s been 4.

Two weeks? I kept my goose fat for almost two years last time we had one. Mind you that was in two jars, the second one spent its first year in the freezer (but then the best part of another year in the fridge).

It did eventually go mouldy at which point I chucked it. Was fine for many months though. Great roast potatoes.

Fat is pretty “inert”, keeps for ever as long as there nothing else in there.

If it smells OK, it’s OK. That’s why your nose is above your mouth.

It wasn’t : die a slow, horrible death

And what cretin invented a use by date. Smells ok. Use it.

As long as you’re just rubbing it in to your rugged torso it’ll be fine.

Less so for the poor bugger licking it off.

It was fine up until one Christmas eve when I had to kill it
