Thinking of giving Yoga a go to attempt to gain a little more flexibility in my ageing limbs. Currently haven’t time to attend any local classes, therefore was wondering if the STW populous had any online/youtube recommendations to at least have a go at the basics?

Do you have an iPhone/iPad? The Yoga Studio App is well worth £1.99.

Don’t you need a teacher to check you are doing it correctly? Would it be worth trying to go to a couple sessions and then using the web to supplement that.

I was recommended Yoga by my physiotherapist, she showed me a routine first and then I used videos online to refresh my memory of all the steps.

No, idea if I would be able to do it effectively if I had just gone straight online.

Reminds me of a quotation about meditation. “you should meditate for 10 minutes every day, except on days when you are too busy. On days when you are too busy, you should meditate for 20minutes”.

Anyway, back to the point, YogaGlow.com comes highly recommended. Though some would consider it expensive.

I’d also add that going to a class is really important, especially if your new. Form is everything, and its really easy to get it wrong without guidance.

If you mean the app by Modern Lotus (it’s £2.99 at the moment!) then I couldn’t agree more – really well done and would be worth 10x the price IMO. I use it most days.

This. Although you’ll probably benefit just by contorting your body to roughly match something you see on screen, there’d be a lot of little things you’ll miss. (And worse-case-scenario make you more susceptible to injury, I suppose).

I do a yoga class most weeks and the instructor is forever correcting little things like alignment (making sure ankles/knees/hips/shoulders all line up, etc) foot position, reminding us to concentrate on breathing, etc!

That’s the one, it may have been £2.99 when I got it too, I can’t remember. I agree that classes probably are worth a lot more but then a single yoga class would probably cost more than double the cost of the app…

It will obviously pay to take things very gently if you do go with the app as you won’t have someone to correct your mistakes.
