2 being ridden quite courteously around our local park Sunday by fully grown-up adult men. Explained to my better half the legal implications of them, and that they should not really be ridden anywhere public without registration/tax/mot/insurance, but had to agree these guys weren’t causing any bother.

Then as we were driving home, they came out of another exit and off up the road at motorbike speed…

Good but hardly an achievement to be proud of for the police catching him after he ran out of battery.

That’s very negative, a positive outcome for the police in my opinion, hopefully he’s going to be charged.

It’s great to see the police actually trying to stop one of these idiots. But the fact that he felt he could ride around with that plate on it with impunity suggests that normally the police don’t show much interest.

With that number plate, do you think he was caught by the Karma Police? If only he’d not ridden it so much around the Bends, but I suppose there was No Surprises that they caught the Creep. With a dead Sur-on he was left High & Dry.

Will this bike now be sold at police auction ?

It can be both. A good result, but hardly anything to boast about or take pride in your chasing strategy and skill. They didn’t achieve this, they were handed an open goal and seem quite proud that they scored. Like winning a cycling race because your rival got a puncture.

In the current situation we need some fresh energy to tackle this issue.

If the emotorbike rams someone, do they charge you with battery?

quite probably. Whereas it should really have its head tube cut off and motor cut in two before being sent for scrap.

I am generally pretty critical of the police for not managing to tackle the rise of Surrons, at the same time I recognise the problems they have if they do pursue the scrotes (Ref: the two lads that died on a Surron incident Cardiff)…

Honestly I think they’re better off investing in eyes in the sky to quietly record evidence and track the little shits to wherever they charge the things and then pouncing. It might not be as fun as chasing them around housing estates in the dark, but it’s probably safer and has a higher chance of success…

There’s a chance isn’t there, might be worth posting replies to Warwickshire plod asking when it’s scheduled for crushing?

Thing is, they’re like land-drones – hard to track or stop, easy to hide. It’s why the scallies and couriers like them. Aren’t the police better off going after the networks that create demand for their use? Because the resources needed to catch an E-MX on the fly must be astronomical.

Am I being dumb here (quite possibly)? Why would this go to police auction? Usually that is recovered stolen goods, nothing here to suggest that’s the case, more a proud owner. The legalities of them riding it is seperate to ownership of the crap electric lego bike

To be fair they caught him after he legged it across the fields so good on em for going their job for once, the police should stealthily follow the sur-ron scrotes home, the way they ride them I’m sure the battery can’t last that long, no doubt they’ll be going back to the local council estate otherwise they’d be grassed up by neighbours in decent neighborhoods.

because to get it back it has to be legal for road use and this is impossible with these

I believe that they can be made ‘legal’ with the addition of lighting inc. brakes. I’m not sure if a speedometer is required but I’d be very surprised if it was not. Then the vehicle has to be insured. Is road fund licensed applicable to EV’s of this type? I dunno.

I’ve seen one ragging out of our decent neighbourhood heading towards the less affluent neighbourhood. Probably on his way home after dropping off a shipment. Assumptions and stereotypes made.

Point being, any folks in decent neighbourhoods don’t GAF. How many cruise around on e-scooters. Decent house, decent job doesn’t mean decent person.

Good on the police for apprehending the rider.

You can buy a road legal version which, from memory, cost a few hundred quid extra. I doubt they sell many of those.

Curious question, are there insurance companies in the uk that cover electric motorbikes? It’s years since I’ve driven a motor bike in Ireland but it was hard enough and expensive to get cover on a petrol bike. No idea if you could insure an electric motor bike here.

This is why people don’t get their dodgy bikes back rather than MOTs, (you can remove the bike in a van from a pound) you have to provide valid insurance and VED (and a bike license) to the police to get the bikes back.

Starting to see more electric motorcycles on the commute into London but proper road going bikes rather than on off roaders so insurance is available – probably less stealable than a petrol bike as you have to have access to a charging point.

Still vastly out numbered by arseholes on chipped and illegally adapted ebikes though

Yup, I see a few people every day on legal electric mopeds/motorcycles, license plates, helmets, being ridden sensibly.

It’s perfectly possible to own an electric motorcycle and not be a complete ****, sadly for certain variety of the hard of thinking, the knobheaddery is the point.
