on-one 29er drop bars anyone elaborate

thinking of turning 2 bikes in to one, well selling 2 an buying one anyway. getting rid of the underused ht and the well usec cross bike commuter.

replacing with either a scandal or inbred 29er frame rigid fork but want to run drops (midges) to aid with the windy commute and winter training miles. Anyone done it care to coment or post a pic of the resulting bike.

Not quite what you were looking for but as no-one else has posted……..

This was ok but realistically the stretch was too far on the drops to be comfy for any length of time. As the t/t is long on the Inbred it might be even more of a problem. I suppose you could get a smaller size frame but I guess it depends on how much 'head down – arse in the air' riding position you are happy with. I ended up buying a crosser 😉

Drop bar road rat?

Works well on surly karate monkey and singular swift and gyphon (not sure on name of last one but you know what I mean) then again if its for road tyres I'd prob go for a 26 inch inbred and run it with 700cc road wheels or 26 for off roadstuff. Or like I've ended up with a surly cross check 😉

I have a drop bar road rat – I like it but tyre clearance only goes up to 1.75 (and thats very tight).

Salsa Fargo?

going to look at the fargo, used to havea scandal 26 and like the light weight, the eff tt is 4cm longer than my cross bike, so i was thinking 60mm stem as opposed to the 100 on the crosser should get me the same reach, i may need to get some rise in there as well.

Just remember when making measurements a stem with rise really shortens the effective length. I needed a 60mm one once but got a 80mm as it had 15mm rise but it still ended up around 20mm too short

You might want to go a frame size smaller than normal to get the right reach, I ran mine with midges and bodged mtb rapidfire shifters, it was fairly comfortable to ride long distance.

I think the only one designed for off road drops is the gryphon. You need to get enough height on the bars to allow you to be in the hooks all the time. Shallow flared drops are more to do with off road comfort than aerodynamics. Remember you need to place the levers much further round the bars than you would on a normal drop bar and as a result the height difference between riding on the hoods and the drops is very little.
