Old school BMX parts?

I’m going to rebuild a 1980’s bmx. I see Alan’s BMX has most of the nos parts i require but a few bits are out of stock. Any recommendations for another retro bmx stockist?

Alans is it really in the UK. Take a look at Custom Riders just in case.

In the USA there’s Porkchop bmx and of course the marketplace on BMX Museum.

There’s lots of good Facebook groups with UK and US members with very active buying & selling.

Oh, there’s a BMX sub-forum on Retrobike that’s worth a look too.

PK Ripper, Redline flights, Hutch pedals, it was the absolute dogs nuts.
Every penny from my Paper round was spent on that bike and my Dad gave it away to some bloke at his work that wanted a kids bike, I don’t think I will ever get over it!!🙁

Alan’s parts are not NOS but they are new retro parts. If you can I would just clean up and try and get the original parts working again (if they are still on the bike)

Also don’t strip the frame and repaint it, original finish is miles better, only original once.

By the way, what is it?

Are you expecting it to be any good when it’s finished? Are you just building a display piece?

No one builds a old school BMX and expects it to be good. Hell even most mid school bmxs were horrible, but nostalgia is fun

I bought some original CW bars on here from a bloke in the us. It all worked out.

How old were you when he did that? Could be considered child abuse. I’d sue.

If I’ve got one regret in my life, it’s leaving my 80’s skyway TA (totally aerodynamic if I recall) at work when I left in 1999.
Cost me £400 back then. Probably a bazillion pounds worth these days.
I did get some good money when I put the stem, toptube and handlebar pads on eBay a few years back though.

Sandboy, I dreamt of having a PK Ripper but it was never to be.

Cheers Pickle, that’s what I was meaning got my terminology wrong re nos and repro. Ive decided to just to clean it up as best as possible. I will build up so it works and looks nice and similar to how it once was. Your right about cost if you go down the nos or og parts.
The frame is a 1982 Shimano 4000, made by Tange in Japan. It’s certainly no race bike but quite cool.

sharkattack just rebuilding for myself, no doubt it will take up space in my shed for the next 40-50 years 🙂

How old were you when he did that?

I was 13 when I had the frame and forks for my Christmas present and built it up spending all my money on the best bits I could.
If I remember correctly, I paid £130 for the Flight’s and £70 for the Bear Traps in about 82-84? I loved it!
At the time I earned £13 a week for 7 days delivery paper’s morning and evening. Looking back as as a cyclist now in my 50’s, the skills I learned in those formative years stood me in good stead for my future.
Great days when looking back.
Edit- I dread to think what it would be worth now?

I did exactly the same as you. My dad bought me a Wilson Reynolds 531 frame and a set of Landing Gear forks for Christmas and said the rest was up to me. I ended up with a set of Skyways for dossing around on and a set of Pro Class for racing and lots of other blingy Pro Class parts all over it, all paid for by my morning and evening paper rounds

I wish I still bloody had it!

I had Araya Aero for racing, Sky Way Tuffs for general mucking about. It was the way.
Tough Neck stem and seatpost, Dia compe MX pro? Haro No plate, Jt Racing gloves and face mask?
I just remember looking through BMX Action bike and in the early days, BMX bi weekly magazines trying to source the best bits I could find.
When I think about it, nothing much has changed.😀
