That’s the classic road route across the US.

I’ve seen a couple of journals of folks who have ridden gravel roads across the country. I think there is s proposed race this year too.

Sharkattacks map and link seem to be for 2 different things. The map is the on road bicycle route and the link is a mostly gravel road route.

Isn’t Rob Colliver of this Parish doing some event that is exactly this? I don’t know if tights over your jersey and aerobars on the mtb are mandatory though?!

Sounds like a proper proper adventure though something like that… Would be an amazing trip if you could do it, even if it meant 50-50 roads and dirt i think it would still be incredible.

I’d love to do something like this. Escaping the real world for a few months would be bliss. Even with the bears and Trump supporters.

I reckon it’d be better than the Tour Divide, more varied scenery. But nearly twice as long 😕

Trans America Trail for motorbikes starts in North Carolina. I think theres a bicycle version.

I was watching A Walk in the Woods the other night, which is an account of Bill Bryson failing to finish The Appalachian Trail – 2180 miles from Georgia to Maine. Spent the whole film thinking it looked perfect for cycling…

Edit: quick Google says no bikes but there is a Great Divide Trail on dirt roads.

My mate and one time singletrack forumite did it on a motorcycle off road last summer.

From what I saw there is a lot of flat straight featureless horizon plains to cross. I’d rather go north from Colorado to Oregon than ride across dull plains.

I’ve driven across those plains lots of times on the interstate – to be honest riding across them does appeal in a kind of extreme endurance way 🙂
