Is anyone using 140mm travel forks?

I have a set of pike 454 airs, really don’t want to change forks as I really like the pikes.

The raw looks much better in the picture above than other photos I’ve seen!

Bodgetastic just to report that it is perfectly possible to drill out the axel and ends of a hope pro 2 hub. to make it take a 12 mm maxle .

First ride so strapped the go pro on to see if it bobbed
1 in 4 ish gradient and I am not the smoothest on the pedals

Thanks no worries I did mail them and they have still got a couple in stock if any one else is interested.
I got mine from JEJames as it was nearer to collect and I am pretty impatient when I want to buy something .

Mr Blobby I am loving it coming from FS to HT and back to FS the comfort is awesome and the hype that it rides up hill is imho true too

ooo, it’s the colour of my nan’s piss! You won’t attract the klunge on that!
Heh, I was gonna get a yellow one, glad I got a black. Photos of my completed build will be up tomorrow.
    Welcome to the Mega club!

Rock Shox hair shocks tend to have too much low speed compression damping anyway so it’s not surprising there’s little bobbing. Stick a coil shock in it, back off any LSC / pro pedal, go up the same hill in the small ring while pedaling out of the saddle and film what happens 😉

Is there a full suss that wouldn’t bob pedalling uphill in the granny ring out of the saddle?

    trout

Well I dont know any riders who do Granny ring stand up honking .

Exactly to both points. Now find me a bike sold in 2011 that bobs badly while pedalling sat down in the middle ring (with an air shock or LSC turned up). Even my old 10″ travel Session 10 was pretty solid on the climbs as long as you didn’t get out of the saddle and rock your weight around.

There are loads of bikes which don’t bob at the rear when you honk.

None of them are single-pivots. Expecting one of those to not bob is daft.

But there are advantages to single-pivots – which I’m sure everyone weighs up when they purchase.

Can anyone comment on how ready the frame is to build out the box? Will I need to get things like the head tube and BB faced?

    trout

Mine built up well with no fuss and no facing
except I had the wrong sized head set so made my own in the rush to get it ridable

Thanks Trout, good to know. Went for the recommended nukeproof headset to avoid any hassle so should be ok with that.

    Still enjoying the ride?

Sounds brilliant. I’ll be building it up this weekend then taking it to Morzine for a week the weekend after, so should be able to give it a proper hammering 🙂

Didn’t you have an mmmbop before the mega? Great for short blasts but not a bike for a bad back!

Yes swopped all the running gear from my MMbop for the Mega still have mrs T`s MMbop to ride if the desire for a HT blast ever returns.

Wifes given up riding so I guess I am now a 2 bike person

The STW Mega owners club is not huge so look forward to your ride reports
    when you get back 😀

    Here it is…

Nothing surprising about the build, other than the amount of spacers above the stem, steerer will be cut down once I figure out where I want the bars. My k950 dropper post will also be going on as soon as I’ve given it a proper service.

Took it for a quick spin round the block and it feels about right. Seemed to pedal fine up a short but steep footpath (in 36/36). I’ve been a bit worried about this coming from shorter travel multi pivot bikes. Shall take it for a proper local ride tonight and hopefully not be spotted being seriously over biked for the terrain!

Anyone running their mega with a 10 speed SRAM X9 rear mech and a 36/12 cassette?

I’ve no clearance between the rear mech and the cassette with the chain off and the mech shifted into the larger sprockets. Pretty sure if the chain fell off then the mech would bury itself into the cassette. Wondering if this is an issue with the placement of the mech on the frame, or something to do with the way I’ve installed the mech, or something to do with X9 rear mechs.

Really want to get one of these frames – could any owners tell me if it’s a threaded BB shell or press fit? Thanks

If you’re after a large that may well be the case. Still some medium and small frames to be found with a bit of hunting.

    steezysix

Yeah, definitely after a large, just can’t decide between black or yellow, might just flip a coin!

    It’s got to be yellow!

Anyone seen a maintenance manual for a mega yet? Bearing change procedures, bolt torques, etc.
