    Might have been covered …

But, when posting a new post, the page ‘hangs’ indefinitely … But, open the forum in a new tab, and it’s all there.

At the moment you can use

    singletrackworld.com/community/

to access forum on your phone, well mine anyway, it’s /forum/ that’s hanging so if you’ve bookmarked that, it won’t work

Forum has almost ground to a halt again. Response times typically 8-12 seconds but often longer.

Yeah same as scotroutes above, hang time can be anywhere from 8 seconds (never less) to +20 seconds.

Why does the forum hang? – its not been fully functional for years, I’m not internet tech savvy but why not just hoof the forum onto something like this off the shelf forum format? pink fish media (audio forum – quite safe), it may cost money but surely it would work out cheaper in the long run than paying for the tech support to keep this sinking ship afloat?

Won’t load when logged in then eventually get a white page with critical error message, horrible advert fest when not logged in.

Singletrackworld.com/forum seems to fail – critical wordpress error. Singletrackworld.com/community works but is incredibly slow…and when you enter that and the page loads, the URL seems to show /forum in the URL.

Has there been an update applied that hasn’t gone quite according to plan?

Slow. . . Slow …Slow. Also page does not load properly – the right-hand panel with ‘Merch’ etc clips off the end of the text.

    Critical error on this website.

It’s a complete mess and needs sorting out. How can you run a campaign to ask users to donate to make things better then actively make it worse. Not a great advert for WordPress VIP or STW

Findusomally has it. I’ll be blunt; I’d consider that those who contributed to the new server fund have invested into this and as such are entitled (a difficult word I know) to at the very, very least information about ongoing work that their many thousands of pounds have paid for. This information should be issued on a regular basis, perhaps a monthly summary of progress, perhaps emailed directly to fund contributers and pro members. At the moment it is a very poor state of afaires and were it me in this position I’d be ashamed that my funders were left in the dark.

Fully agree with @Ambrose. The site is almost unusable this morning.  And on and off for the last few days.  And before that.  Not seeing any benefit from the supposed swanky new server we helped fund. I try very hard to keep the faith and I know Mark and his small team are doing their best, but loyalty and good will are being severely tested. It just never seems to get any better.  I know that sounds harsh, but just saying honestly what i feel.

Off to do my Sunday morning browsing on a site that works  🙁

I posted saying the forum fails to load on safari iOS 18.2 but I realise now that it does load, but you need to wait around 10secs for each load. It’s crazy slow. Ironic really given it’s about the only site I actually pay for.

    MacOS 15.1, Safari 18.1 – Critical error

iPhone iOS 18.2 – works fine

    Both logged in.

I see now it will load, if I delete my old bookmarks/ favourites and go to the forum from the home page, then re-bookmark it.

You lot all realise this is a small company with a small bunch of techs running it AND ITS THE BLOODY WEEKEND?

    You get that, right?

These multiple performance and functionality issues did not all suddenly materialise this weekend. Nor did the comments about them on this thread.

    You get that right?

It’s seems there are a lot of comments in the last 2 days.

It’s seems there are a lot of comments in the last 2 days.

It seems your ability to scroll through previous pages is compromised in some way.

[Mod] fyi both Tech and Mark have been made aware of the current issues and will be investigating them tomorrow.   We can only apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

And you seem to lack the ability to read my post and what it relates too.

Well done on winning the patronising award.

[Mod] please play nicely.  Thank you.

This thread was created, by STW specifically so users could highlight issues they were experiencing with the forum. Calling them ‘entitled’ for doing precisely that is patronising.

Edit: Mod comment above appeared whilst I was typing. I will bow out for now.

I’m hoping that the level of ire shown by users might be enough to catalyse some kind of informative response from STW.

It would be interesting to know

    1. Are the breakages from unreliable stuff that almost randomly stops working by itself, or is it because somebody is changing something and inadvertently breaking other stuff while doing so?

    2. Are the breakages in custom STW code, software products and plugins you’re running (e.g. wordpress, membership plugin), or software/services that vendors are running on your behalf (e.g. wordpress VIP, Ezoic)?

Your ‘Thread of the week’ click-thru box on the RH side triggers a safety warning for me in chrome, possibly due to the ‘go-vip’ bit added to the URL?

The critical error appears if you go direct to https://singletrackworld.com/forum

but if you go from the main page then to https://singletrackworld.com/community/

it appears to work. Looks like the redirect from forum -> community is broken

Dammit, going to have to go and ride my bike instead of sitting here waiting for the forum to load!

Well, this has been the impetus I needed to update my bookmarks from ‘forum’ to ‘community’.

FWIW, I think that the communication about issues/outages has been pretty good on here. I strongly suspect that the lack of updates about this particular episode means that it’s coincided with something else in the teams lives that takes priority. It’s tempting but probably not that productive to vent ones frustration on here.

well this is awful.  took over 6 minutes for this page to load, and just a bit less to load the forum from the ‘community’ link above.

i looked to see whether there was any traffic on the main forum page and there does still seem to be, so is it just worse for me than others?  not having a go, i can go do other stuff,  just curious as to others’ experiences.  you taking the same amount of time to load single pages?

im guessing mark et al are having kittens after forking out all that money for an improvement in speed/usability? :-/

I thought it was just me.. I’ve had threads that are 5 mins + and posting took nearly 10 mins…

I can rest easy that it’s not just me though

    It’s abysmal.

Took over 4 minutes just to process a post earlier.

I preferred the old site that worked but fell over every now and then.

I keep getting this screen when posting too…

I just spoke with Mark. The TL;DR is, it’s complicated, but they’ve switched a bunch of stuff off and are systematically switching them back on one by one to try and pin down a root cause.

Thanks Cougar, it can’t have been a fun day trying to get on top of it.  I don’t want to tempt fate but the page refresh time finally seems normalish.  I was maybe a bit out of order voicing my frustration yesterday. I wasn’t having a great day for other reasons but that’s no excuse. Apologies all.

FYI, the reason for “the critical error” is I think older cookies set to a mix of domains singletrackworld.com and .singletrackworld.com, and some backend change that doesn’t like the former (notice the dot prefix)

If you instead use www.singletrackworld.com then it is fine as some of the cookies don’t match the FQDN so don’t get sent.  Or clear cookies of course.
