Notice – STW any issues ?

Not really a problem as such, but if I post a YouTube link on my phone (pixel 6a, android 14, chrome) it posts the video. If I do it on my Chromebook, it posts a link, no video

Communications with a seller is via the PM link in each ad.

Im sure you were always able to post comments on classified posts? I did about a week ago. Function seems to have disappeared.

Chrome (but think it does same on Safari).  Ios17, iPhone 12.  Page reloads during a long thread or reply.

So on an iPhone how do I stop the x 2 videos per page auto playing?

It must use a chunk of my data and I never look at them beyond looking for the ‘x’

a return is leaving a blank line today  that’s new

yesterday after typing a reply (a few times) I’d click to post then get a notice that I was trying to post with out any text

my text was lost  – I gave up, phew it worked ok today

edit opened very slowly

appreciate the effort to be compatible with the multitude of devices browsing.
deleting cache can be a frustrating instruction – even then why is it getting messed up in the first place? So many developers prescribe be “delete cache” yeah it might work but loses cached info. Maybe stop adding cookies until they are non problematic?

Similar issues to Houns:

But if I click and hold I can select Open from the contextual menu and it opens fine. It doesn’t happen all the time – but often enough to be a pain.

I was getting no response when clicking on thread titles. Unable to log in.    Solved by disabling adblocker. Firefox on Windows 11 and adblock plus.   This being a new issue – same setup used for years without this problem.

An awful lot of posts are now black text on a dark grey background for me now. I’m probably not missing much, but having posts in invisible ink isn’t ideal.

Can be very slow to refresh pages at times. Also the pop-up videos are a pain.

Posts can also be hard to read as others have mentioned.

I just assumed the general brokeness of the forum was part of STWs rustic charm, like the slightly irregular shaped cakes or random crockery you get in an ‘artisanal’ coffee shop.
Sure you’re paying over the odds, and it lacks the polish and professionalism, plus they never remember to ask if you have any allergies but bless ’em they’re really trying and there’s more smiles than the Costa down the road.

Don’t worry about fixing it, we can muddle by with our badly remembered BB code, and sometimes self deleting posts are a good thing…

Generally ok, but sometimes when composing a post and say I want to insert  a new sentence mid way in a paragraph the text following it sizes down a font and remains tiny. No idea how/why. iOS 17.4.1

RE White text on white background issues and similar glitches.

We’ve noticed that some users are typing their replies in external apps, like a word processor and then copying and pasting into the text box on the forum. When this happens the formatting code from the external app is being pasted into the forum. This leads to strange formatting and different fonts and the like. That’s why that happens. It’s something we will look to develop a fix for so we can strip out any extra code so that doesn’t bugger things up. But, in the interim if you can type in the forum box rather than copying text from outside the site that would help.

I can manually fix individual posts so, until we get a code fix if you spot your own post is glitching this way then let us know and I’ll fix it.

Also, until we fix that code copying bug, if you quote a user in your post make sure you only copy their text and not their username, full member tags etc. Although it looks like you are pasting just text when you do this you are actually copying a load of the code from the page and this includes things like the current text colour and dark/light mode status.

Again, this is an us problem not you, but explaining why it’s happening may help reduce the instances until we put in a permanent fix.

Something that might help users resolve or avoid some of these issues would be a return of the ‘preview’ button

The site is still sending my Macbook Pro bananas with the fans spinning up every time I have it open in Safari. Anecdotally it sucks my iPhone batter dry too and uses loads of data.

That is most certainly caused by ads.

I appear to have lost the formatted/raw options for the editor, and all the buttons. I’m using Opera, they’ve generally been available up until now. Apologies if this is already known or has been disabled recently for a specific reason.

Offline for me on and off over the last hour or so.  503 error apparently which is a change from 502 at least. Chrome on a Chromebook and on a Pixel.

Same problem as blokeuptheroad on Samsung Android.

Android + Brave.

Had an exchange of PMs on Friday via the Classifieds.

Didn’t receive any notifications. Have checked my config in ‘My Account’ and they’re on. I think they appear as a red blob top right normally?

Also, ‘Deals’ still don’t work for me. Registered email is unrecognised.

@branes if Deals isn’t working, please email support@myezrewards.com – it’s administered by a third party, so as long you’re using the email your STW account is registered with, it’s down to them to fix any issues. They’re usually pretty responsive.

I’ve had the random text and html tags appear in posts before, but not for a while.

Glitches like this are hard to nail down when they only happen to some people. Here’s my view.

The code for the edit functions is firing on most but not all devices. We are still trying to work out why.

No option to switch to the other editor (where you can keep the mark up clean) for you then @Mark ? Just the fancy editor? Posts will keep being filled with unreadable nonsense ‘till that comes back for us all.

Keeping the simple editor made more sense, there’s really very little need for half the editing features.

All text in the forum seems to be in bold typeface for me?

Can’t make any new thread… get a 403 error every time (PC, tried Chrome & Firefox)
