No water!

Just tried to have a bath, no water. Contacted Wessex Water, the whole of Chippenham is affected, due to a burst pipe! 😳

That’s 40-50,000 people. They don’t know how long it’s going to be, “due to the complex nature of the burst”. Yikes.

I’ve lived here all my life, this is the first time anything like this has ever happened, so I guess we’ve been lucky. There’s a water supply station set up about 100 meters along the road, so I’ll wander along and see what’s going on. Ironic, considering how much rain we’ve had lately! 🤷🏼

Not an uncommon occurrence here, we have 10 litres of emergency bottled water under the stairs, enough to make a brew.

I’ve lived here all my life, this is the first time anything like this has ever happened, so I guess we’ve been lucky.

People in wealthy countries just don’t know how lucky we are being able to take things like this for granted.

Apparently the pipe burst yesterday morning, engineers have worked through the night and have fixed it, but now they have to recharge the system. It’s affected all the local schools, industrial estates, everything. It has, however, given the local golf club a new water feature… 🦈🌊🚤😁

I was thinking that myself. As I said, I’ve no recollection of a pipe burst like this affecting the entire town ever; there’s been the occasional one affecting part of a street, but the entire town is unprecedented. Bet it’ll be on the new tonight.

I was up late watching a movie, and I’m out tonight for a drink with a friend, and my shower is out of order at the moment, so a quick bath was my thinking, but I’ll go and grab some water and have a quick splash using the kettle. Needs must.

How big are your brews??

As we’re on a shared private water supply we get this excitement every three months or so and no bugger else is coming to fix it!

Just been along to grab a couple of bottles, there’s a constant stream of cars and people, talking to a couple of blokes from Wessex Water, they’ve called in people from right across the district, one’s from Shaftesbury, the other’s from down on the Somerset/Dorset border, they’ve never experienced a situation like this, where an entire large town has been affected.
It’s going to take time to restore service, all the system has to be recharged and pressure restored, the reservoirs have to top up, so probably tomorrow before it’s anything like normal.
Anyway, time for a brew! 😁☕️

This has to be the most shocking news i’ve read today, Chippenham has running water?!

Only too familiar with this due to South West Water’s incompetence

A flat I rented in Glasgow had to have  a newly installed heating system ripped out and replaced after it  was condemned by Corgi (installer had already been struck off by them but of course if you looked in the current yellow pages he was still listed as corgi registered )

Whole installation had to be ripped out – it was late January so we had no hot water and no heating while the remedial work was done.  We also didn’t really much of a floor to stand on.

As this was happening the electricity board started digging up the road outside to replace the mains cabling so even if we’d had  functioning gas heating it would have been out of action of most of each day anyway. So we had black outs, and that of course took out the broadband as well.

The electricity board then managed to smash the water main for the street as well – so now we didn’t even have cold water – and were starting to wonder if somehow it would be possible for air supply to somehow fail too

This – its turned out was the perfect moment for a bout of gastric flu.
