It’s to pontificate and let the world know how incredibly clever they are for not ever being in Murdoch’s pockets and for eradicating all evil in the world.

The committes produce reports for governments to consider and act on.

The report from MPs on the all-party home affairs committee will be released on Wednesday morning. Its publication has been moved forward in time for a statement on the scandal by the prime minister, David Cameron.

It finds the company “deliberately” tried to “thwart” the 2005-2006 Metropolitan police investigation into phone hacking carried out by the News of the World.

So – they don’t have to prove anything – they simply report and sometimes make recommendations. parliamentary privilege means that can say what they want.

I thought they gave the commissioner and deputy commissioner a much harder time of it than the newscorp people, I thought they were downright rude and abrasive to Stevenson whereas it seemed they just allowed brooks to fob them off. They didn’t let the police do that, they laboured every question ❓
