Just priced up some new lenses for my glasses, going to try ciliaryblue as Specsavers lenses seem to scratch really easily, and the last pair the coating seemed to wear off!

£58 for thin lenses with ultra-clean coating.

However…an extra £27 gets me honeycomb lenses which have the ultra-clean coating along with a load of other anti-reflective/glare coatings.

I can’t work out if they are a load of marketing rubbish or if they actually do what they claim – reduce strain from bright office lights, sharpen vision, improve night vision by fitering light that hits the lens from an angle.

Seems to be very little in the way of user reviews, just the odd opticians article online…

No idea but I’d be interested in this. The anti glare coating on my specsavers glasses seems to symphonic grease out of the air onto the lenses where as the uncoated ones seem fine but erm glarey.

Seems strange there are not more reports, I suppose a lot of sales may be trade ‘instore’ and hence people do not tend to leave reviews or comment online. The company seems to be UK based Jai Kudo who have a range of specialist lenses. They advertise prices for bulk ordering 20 or 50 sets of lenses so clearly aimed at opticians and not private buyers…

I always used to get the whole 9 yards for my glasses. Now I wear contacts almost all the time it seems a waste, so the most recent pair is one of the free with contact lens pairs with basic lenses. I like the frames but the lenses are definitely much worse. Everything seems really flat (ok so this is probably due to the thickness) and there’s definitely more reflection of my face in sunny conditions.

I’m the other way, can no longer wear contacts daily so wear glasses all of my waking hours, except when I use contacts for cycling 🙁

Like slowbloke has found, mid range anti-glare lenses just result glasses that are really sensitive to smudges, dust collection and scratching 🙁

Well I emailed them asking what feedback they had received from customers, and how popular the honeycomb lenses are. Surprisingly, the response was quite helpful…

‘Not widely used or ordered and the reviews are mixed, I’d go for the Blue-V coated lenses instead of the honeycomb.’

So thats what I’ve done, seeing as the Blue V option is only about £7 extra on top of ultra-clean, I’ve chosen to go with it.

Blue V apparently filters some blue light but does not change colour perception, so is good for someone like me who has found themselves sitting in front of a PC all day, and often sits behind a laptop in the evening. Supposedly reduces eye strain as well as the more obvious benefit of lessening the impact of all that screen use causing issues getting to sleep.

(I have the blue filter thing on my laptop that starts cutting blue light after sunset, I don’t notice it in the evening, but if I use the laptop early in the morning the screen is noticeably warmer/more yellow when it first turns on)
