What are the differences? I have air pikes atm, are air revs substantially lighter, more flexy etc?

Thought new revs were same as old the air pikes.

and that pikes are only available now as coils.

but then again I could just be delusional.

    20mm Revs use Pike lowers.

no they don’t – if they did you could retrofit a maxle light (which you can’t) they also have power bulges where as pikes don’t

Pikes only available in coil version for 09, confirmed in a thread a couple of days ago, even though the air Pikes still show on the RX website.

Dunno exactly what this means as RS have not said anything officially but I guess we have to assume Pike = coil, Revs = air? Just looked at the website and see that RS put Pikes under all mountain and Revs as trail. Also Revs are Maxle light

Rode the new Revs and even in the Surrey Hills they show up as not being as stiff as the Pikes.

According to a couple of web sites the Pikes are 2113g and the Revs 1818g, so about 300g lighter. Same travel, but in a bikeradar (?) review they did mention that the revs were not as substantial as the pikes – more of a longer travel trail fork than an all mountain fork.

If I can get a good price on a second hand pair in due course I’ll probably give them a go as it’s a fair weight saving and I mostly ride XC / trails so I don’t think I really need the burly build of the pikes. I do need the travel though to match the rear, hence the original purchase of pikes

i doubt the weight difference is as much as 300g for the Maxle version of the Revelation. Thats about the difference between some Pikes, 2008 130mm QR Revelations (both dual air). i’ve got both at home, might weigh them properly at somepoint.

300g would be a lot of material to remove from a maxle, the crown and the lowers.

The 454 Pike lowers are aluminium, whereas the Rev lowers are steel. Therefore Revs are lighter despite having heavier lowers so must be much less beefy overall

steel lowers are you sure – where have you seen that?

The top of the range ones are all made of the same stuff
    (magnesium lowers, rest aluminium)

ive got 429 dual air revs on the crush at the mo, QR versions. cant comment on the pikes, but the revs feel good and solid, no flex so far! 😀

Get it straight RR, ’09 Revs don’t have power bulges, the new Sids and Rebas do. The lowers are modded Pike castings, that’s why they’re still IS mount, not post.

steel lowers and a weight of 1.8kg? I don’t think so.

Maybe creating so much hearsay and uncertainty about their products is the new Rock Shox marketing strategy?
