New Helmet, Whats everyone wearing?

Currently using a Giro Havoc helmet from 2005. Getting on a bit now so looking for something new.
What is everyone using nowadays?

Uvex XP100 – best fitting helmet I’ve ever tried and one handed chin catch adjustment is nice.

Bell sweep ….. best fitting by far

One which fits my head. It may not fit yours.

Giro Xar.

I was disappointed with how hard and uncomfortable the Uvex was when I tried it (I obviously have the wrong head for it).

I bought a KED (another German brand) at the Semaine Federale and it’s the only helmet I have tried that sits properly down on the head as opposed to most which sit far too high on the head to have a reasonable chance of protecting properly.

i’m on an S-works 2D currently for road/racing and will be getting a Flux of Xar for my “trail” helmet

Fox Flux the best Helmet I’ve ever had, suprisingly airy too.

Urge Endur-o-matic. Had it for about 18 months and it’s great.

Giro Hex, not bad for the price, but leaves you with a mohawk each time you wear it. Not sure if that’s good or not?!

Xen for me. Although I have just bought one of these

we will see what it’s like, although I will say it’s very light

I just got one from Decathlon for £20 half price and it’s a beauty. Much more comfortable than my expensive Scott lid.

Kask for me, very good fit, light and seems tough, bit pricey at £120, but I liked it.

Bell Faction.

I find I can often bag some lunch too, which is nice.
For general riding, one of these.

Hex for me. £47 is plenty to spend on something I might break tomorrow and have to replace (and will protect me just as well as a more expensive one).

Other half bought it for me as she wanted something to protect the back of my head better than my old 2006 Giro Havoc. Havoc always looke a bit mushroom top too but the Hex does fit better.

Bell Sweep look the best but don’t go down the back as far and the Hex is MUCH cooler than the Havoc was.

Fox Flux – (the black one with red flames cos I’m rad 😉 ). Way better than the Giro Xen it replaced.

Just got an Endur-O-Matic and love it. Bronze with lightning bolts! Proper CHiPS meets Flash Gordon.

Fit is perfect for me – but not very adjustable. Much cooler to ride in than it looks and super light.

I’ve had helmets from Bell, Specialized and Met (what I’m wearing currently). The Bell didn’t fit that well from the start, but the others were a very good fit (I’m sure that’s down to my head shape).

The Urge Enduromatic is certainly popular at the moment & I have been tempted to get one.

Fox Flux here. It’s getting to be a wee bit batttered so hoping to try on either an Endur-o-matic or the new Fox Striker soon.

Don’t know how anyone can ride in these new style Endur-o-matic things – don’t they boil your head?

Had a Fox pi55pot, now cheapo Spesh typical vented brain bucket. Surprisingly the comfiest sub £50 I tried. Does the job, I’d rather spend my money on the bike than the lid as they’re all certified.

Oddly enough I had an old Giro E2 which was superb, but when I came to replace it, none of the current Giro lids actually fitted at all! It seems Giro changed their shapes…

I’ve got a MET Kaos now, superb lid, can’t recommend it highly enough, as long as it fits. Didn’t pay anything like the £115 rrp though to be fair…

Surprisingly, no. Got mine for ‘in between’ the XC lid and full face, thinking it would be too warm for hard rides. Did a fast 2 hour ride in about 18 degrees, expecting to cook. It was very cool – the vents work surprisingly well. 3-4 rides in and I love it. So comfy and light I keep forgetting it’s on. Will probably still use the Xen in hot weather though.

gravity-slave – no disrespect, but if you can cope with a Xen in hot weather, then you obviously don’t run anywhere near as hot as me. I am a sweaty bugger 😉

Giro Xar

Bell Sequence, Bell Faction and Troy Lee D3 for me.

Sequence for most mountain biking and also some road riding (if I have to wear a helmet). Faction for cooler days, jumping and stuff and D3 for DHing.

Tried a Xen and never liked it. Really wanted an Endur-o-Matic but they don’t come large enough. Thought it would be the ideal replacement for my old Giro Semi that was superb.

I have a new Giro for sale, brand new and never worn (long story), email in profile, cost me £89 will have to check exact model

Well it does get a bit sweaty, but I wouldn’t want to ride off road with less protection, I prefer the downs to the ups!

Wore the Xen on the road the other day and thought it was raining – then realised I was dripping!
