and why are all tyre now Dh gravity blah can a tyre not be aimed at good all rounder to ride about on ya bloody bike..arrrrrgghhhhh

    Two rides in on Krptotal R 29 x 2.4 soft and Kryptotal F DH 29 x 2.4 super soft.
Roll better than Hans Dampf/Big Betty rear with a Magic Mary front. Supertrail soft.
Grip feels a fair bit better as well.
On the same trails I’m going the same pace but I feel like the tyre is stuck to the trail. I feel like I’m going to be able to push a bit harder now.

I’m considering getting a spare set of wheel for my Privateer 141 and putting a soft on the front and one of the trail compounds on the back. I reckon that they will make an ace set of trail tyres.

Argotal DH in supersoft on the front of my eeber.
Replaced a Magic Mary supergravity in ultrasoft.
I’m liking it so far. Seems to have more grip than the MM and also seems to be wearing a bit better.

Not tried it in the wet yet but that’ll soon be changing.

Kryptotal rear trail, so far so good as a DHR replacement. There was some more discussion here.

I’d really like a trail casing soft or super soft front though.

My mate’s been running the argotal, super soft front, soft rear, for two weeks in the Alps, and I’m impressed by how well they’re lasting. He reckons they grip pretty well too.

Just ordered an argotal enduro to try once my wrist’s recovered, looks like an excellent bit of kit. Well priced too.

I’d also like to know the dinosaur connection? I like dinosaurs

Interested to know how porous both the trail and enduro casings are. I just removed a der Baron projekt from the rear of my bike that had Pools of jizz where it had been sitting in the bike store

Trail casing is made in China rather than Germany, hence the lack of black chilli based rubber, but lower price point. I suspect to avoid confusion thats how it will stay.

Didn’t know that, but explains a lot frustrating to have to go up 150-200g
in weight to get a decent compound up front, Scbwalbe have done much the same thing with their new range.

Will be sticking with an Exo+ Maxxgrip up front, I think.

The tread patterns are inspired by the scales on dinosaurs backs.

@EhWhoMe – well that sounds a lot like marketing bolox directly from the 90s.

I’d understand “faster rolling than a Mary”, but more grip? come on! 😂

That’s annoying but I could go enduro casing. I’d still like the ultra soft compound in the enduro casing though.

I was thinking of getting the trail casings. Are they not as good quality?

Ive ordered trail kryptotal front and rear so will find out i guess, i dont do any extreme dh stuff just general trail/xc , lakes, dales and the like.

I’m very happy with the trail rear, the casing seems pretty tough especially for the weight. Personally I’ll want a softer compound for the front (I’m still on my previous maxxis front for now) but my riding is more about descending.

had been impressed with my kryptotal enduro casing on the rear in the dry, good grip and wearing well and not draggy. finally found out what its like in the wet at SES pitfichie on sunday and still impressed.

going to try one on the front when i finish of the wild enduro, might also need an argotal for when conditions get really bad.

Has anyone ridden both the soft and super soft compounds? Is super soft noticeably gripper or will I be fine with soft enduro and saving 100g?

According to the maxxis and conti websites the DH casing super soft is barely heavier than the exo+ assegai I’m currently running so could be an option on the front.

The other annoying thing is that the super soft dh costs about £70 whereas the (out of stock) soft enduro is closer to £55.

Yeah, what you’re finding there is BS pricing though. The Enduro is the hardest to get with tiny stocks, so they slap them up at a tasty discount and oh, out of stock, sorry… They are £10 cheaper though, so £60 would be the comparable to a £70 DH tyre.

I am so pleased with my current Magic Mary & Big Betty combo, I’m not sure I want to risk trying anything else…. But I love to try new tyres 😜

The tread of the krptotal rear looks quite similar to an Aggressor. I hope it performs better than that.

Enduro soft Kryptotal 29×2.4 front and rear (and a 2.6 argotal for the front once it gets wet enough), replaced a MM/big betty supergravity soft combo. The conti’s are lighter and roll faster but seem to be at least as grippy. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not XC tyre fast (as I found out to my pain last weekend trying to keep up on the local club mtb ride)

I managed to get the front sliding a couple of times on Friday night, it was so dry and dusty, but it was really gentle the way they let go and plenty of feel so I was able to pick them back up and carry on.

All three tyres came in heavier than advertised though.

Its very much a DHR2, not really like an Aggressor at all as the blocks are bigger, deeper and more spaced than an aggressor.

To be fair I’ve been getting that with my maxgrip assegai this summer too.

Mary’s not spectacularly grippy tbh- it shines because it’s such a brilliant “softer end of allrounder”, it can do anything- but it’s not as grippy in the wet as a shorty or in the dry as a dhr2… Comparing ultrasoft with maxxgrip or soft with maxxterra, that is.

Head’s up…29er Kryptotal Enduro Front is now in stock at CRC.

Sods law…I got impatient waiting last week so ordered the DH Super Soft from Bike Inn, which is slowly making its way over from Spain but I’ve now ordered the Enduro from CRC, as that’s what I wanted! One or the other will be up for sale next week I expect!

Ah hah. I had somehow not noticed the “R” when I ordered mine, guess I’ll be finding out if it’s like a dhr2 and works on the front 😛

Whole bunch of these at 25% off on =29-52]Alpinetrek.co.uk <- (STW doesn’t like the squarebrackety things but the link still works) £41 – £51
I tried to order some but my work internet screwed it up, so if you lot snap them up I’ll save my money!
Labelled as “cyclocross tyres” but I think you might have trouble fitting them on yer 700cs 😀

Possibly a bit early to tell but anyone using an Argotal, what’s it like as an all round winter tyre in comparison to a Mary? Had a 2.6″ Super Trail soft on the front last year which was good but need a new tyre!

Not tried the Conti (sure it’s great), but I’d suggest the WTB Verdict light/high grip as the best all-rounder I’d tried – by some way.

It feels a bit like a Mary or Assegai but clear and corners better than either IMO.

I’ve got a 2.6 Argotal sat on the shelf waiting for the weather to really turn. I think I mentioned it on another thread about these new Conti’s, it’s a lot spikier than a Mary both in terms of the size of the knobs and the spacing between the knobs.

Thanks @chakaping Just had a look and stock is non existent as far as I can see for a light/high grip. Plus every WTB tyre we’ve had in the house has been a massive pain to get tubeless or seated properly, so a little reluctant.

Funny that you compare the Assegai & Mary, I find the Assegai clogs a lot more than the Mary and is what will be coming off. Love it when drier though!

    That Argotal looks monstrous!

I like the Magic Mary a lot as an all-conditions front tyre – I’m guessing the Argotal is a bit more extreme mud (like the Shorty?) and the Kryptotal more like the Assegai (with the clogging problems when it’s stickier/slower).
