take a look at the cow bells first, not as flared as the woodchipers, standard on the full Vaya

How much clearance between those tyres and the fork?

Nothing to hate that I can see, that’s a lovely looking push bike.

I considered a Vaya and a Fargo but settled on a Gryphon, coincidentally also from Tim at Sideways Cycles.

Nice boik. What’s the thinking behind the gearing? 50/34 + 12/25 isn’t really touring gearing is it? Presumbly you’ll be a bit limited at the rear by the mech if you swapped he cassette for a specific tour?

Presumably it’s an Audax/unloaded bridle way bike(tyres and discs)?

Not sure I follow you here? Its a pretty large spread of gears, Would have thought it would be pretty spot on?

    Er, no, its for touring…

    Nice that.
Serious question – how different to a kaffenback is it!

I like it. I’d change the gearing if it was mine – I don’t think I’d want more than a 46 chainring myself.

Wide spread for a road racing bike maybe – not so much for an audax bike, let alone a tourer. It does of course depend on your definition of touring – how much load you’re putting on and how steep hills you’re going up, but I’ve certainly often needed and used lower gears than 34/25 when touring.

Apart from that this thread is a real disappointment – I’m a hater, but can’t really see anything wrong with that bike.

34/25 isn’t very low for a touring gear. 22/34 is a very low touring gear, 24/30 ‘average’. It’s not just about spread, you also need low to winch you up those Alpine passes. 🙂

It’s a nice bike and I’m not dissing it in any way. Was just interested in your thinking around the gearing. Enjoy!

To be fair, The gearing was more “what I had”- didn’t buy anything new.

I’ll give it a go, and could well end up with a 36/46 upfront and something else out the back 😳

That is a great looking bike!
Where you had the 3rd bottle cage mounted on the underside of the downtube is where I have the bracket for my pump on my touring bike. Keeps it out of the way but I worry about it getting mucked up.
Let us know how you get on with the gearing once it is fully loaded up.

Touring gear is whatever the gear you have on your bike with some luggage ;0)

Any toting that requires carrying sleeping and cooking stuff is all sorts of wrong!

Liking that a lot. In the market for a steel CX/Touring style bike that takes discs. Will have a closer look at the Salsa.

How does it ride off road? Big grins?
