There is only two ways to deal with it really, the official way and the Other way, to be frank you don’t sound like someone who uses the Other way so keep logs/records, get the PCO’s, H/A, police involved and give her a wide berth,
    It’s all you can do.

my money’s on the back doors

Probably. Your money should be as good as anyone elses.
But I wouldn’t mention it to the OP though

why should the value of my house and my neighbour’s be ruined by somebody who has made “odd lifestyle choices”? Imagine if everybody chose not to work or to look after their property!

Ton has been despatched to the Ivory Coast to sort out the spot of trouble they seem to be happening. Expect to see headlines along the lines of ‘man mountain lamps Laurent Gbagbo, averting civil war’, appearing soon.

CC , Do you not have any Bombers knocking about ?
Call the police a few times and tell them shes a dealer , throw a load of birdseed in the garden and hope it germinates into some weed.
Get yourself a decent webcam and park near her place . If she really is a mentalist with transport issues then at least you will have a little video of her trashing your car.

Unlike some of the others on here, you have my sympathy. It’s not nice when have worked hard to live where you want and one person is ruining the whole street.

Unfortunately it sounds like you will have to let the police/council deal with it (as advised ^^) in due course. Try and chill out and keep out of her way – that goes for your wife too. If she has already had a go at you and a child it won’t be too long before she oversteps the mark and will be removed or evicted.

I can sympathise with the OP, having been through something equally unpleasant.

As Woody says really. Just don’t do anything to antagonise and keep a low profile.

In my case eventually one person was sent to prison and the rest of the scumbags were evicted.

    What goes around comes around.

why should the value of my house and my neighbour’s be ruined by somebody who has made “odd lifestyle choices”?

This is what someone is doing on our road, about 10 old cars covered in old bit of carpet, plus a garden full of old building material.

We (the other neighbours) forced the council into giving him a year (due soon) to tidy it up. Clearly, the council would prefer not to do anything (to save money), so we had to get solicitors involved to get things moving. Still not resolved so I can’t say if this has worked yet.

richmars – how did you end up getting the council to agree to that? a couple more houses down the road have been trying to sell and when chatting whilst clearing the snow a couple of weeks ago one of them mentioned about the house i said about above…

CC – any developments? please say you haven’t set fire to her garden? and i’ll ask again… does she have kids? if you genuinely believe she’s a prostitute and there’s kids in the house then that might be worth mentioning to the police? (not my area of expertise at all.. maybe another forum member could offer some advice on this one… but just a thought)

    philconsequence,
I think the council have a responsibility to maintain the ‘fabric’ and well-being of council tax payers (something like that anyway). But clearly this costs them money, so the first response is to say no. That’s when we got a solicitor involved (cost about £300 between 6-7 neighbours). Once you get the council solicitors involved, to deal with yours, the council costs go up and it’s cheaper for them to solve the problem. (That’s what I think happens). Like I said, nothing has happened yet, the NFH had a year to clear up his mess, which he hasn’t yet, so who knows what will happen in a few months.

Thank you richmars, cinnamon_girl and Woody. Unlike some of the forum members on here it is nice to see some people bother working hard in life and do not like seeing that devalued by the lazy and feckless members of society.

richmars (and Philconsequence for asking), thank you for the advice about the solicitor. I did speak to my immediate neighbours last night and they kindly agreed to keep a diary of any incidents, although I have to say I did get the impression that my neighbours to the left weren’t taking it as seriously as they should.

Philconsequence, as far as I’m aware she does not have any children (thank god!).

I don’t read believe everything I read in the papers.

TandemJeremy, it is not overreacting I don’t think. As I said, they kindly agreed to keep a diary of any incidents but perhaps they are not as concerned as my wife and I or they have made peace with the situation in some way because they appeared much less motivated than when she’s been discussed in the past.

well i’m not fussed about the bad neighbour over the road ‘cos i rent… the value of the property doesnt not effect me. perhaps your neighbour rents?

richmars – are all those cars taxed?

Surely 10 cars cant all be taxed. Theres an online car insurance checker askmid to see if the owner really has 10 cars insured all the time.

Sometimes councils push back not because they think your ‘case’ is flimsy- I think its just individuals there who can only do so much work (or hope you’ll go away so they don’t have to).

    hora,
No, not all the cars are taxed but most aren’t on the road.

Just curious not wanting to start a fight, but it intrigues me when people say that “alternative lifestylers” bring property prices down.

How do you know that ? Did somebody sell a house, move a crappy neighbour in, then sell an identical house a year later ??

Have you filmed swarms of potential buyers coming over the horizon, who simply turn around and run with horror when they see her front garden full of empties and Johns ??

You could never replicate the same conditions a year later, there are so many contributing and uncontrollable factors that impact on the value of a house.

OK sorry I am being a bit facetious now and I do empathise with you but there is so much Urban Myth around this type of thing, tho this is perhaps more Suburban Myth.

And it’s easy to gang up on and blame the crazy lady.

not sure if it’s just me, but (no offense CC, i dont know you and you’re probably nice in real life) it looks like CC views her as “lazy and feckless” but is using the suggested mental health angle as an excuse to try and get her moved on… cant see much evidence in his posts of any real mental illness, but a lot of evidence of CC being pretty snobby.
