Trying to resurrect a old orange 29 , shock died, it was  a cane creek 190×50 but merlin have fox rear shocks of 190×45 on sale .

Will work or will their be problems with using a shorter stroke?

    Cheers

You’ll loose 10% of your travel but it’ll work.

I might have a spare 190×45 Fox shock I picked up cheap. Used a few times to try a lower BB out on a bike that takes a 200×57. I’ll look.

10% less travel, makes it “down country”?

I’m not sure you can do this both ways, but I had Sprung suspension change the stroke length from a 250/55 to a 250/50 by removing an internal spacer.

All depends which shock it is.

Anyway, found the shock I was using to try things out. Has offset bushings in it (more messing about with ride height) so would need new standard bushing fitted. Will take some photos in a bit.

It’s an OEM shock, but I bought it from either Merlin on Chainreaction, I can’t remember which.
