My place of work, as it was envisioned.

This place is about 8 miles from me, does it count ?

It’s a proper Buddhist temple with monks. And loads of tasty looking nuns :

They don’t mind you walking around and will even offer you food if it happens to be their meal time.

That’s not a sentence I expected to see today!

Wilton House, family seat of the Earl of Pembroke. Built on land granted to William Herbert by Henry VIII after the dissolution of the monastaries. Built on top of a 9th century abbey I believe. Most famous for the double cube room which has featured in lots of period films. Has quite a fine art collection, including a Rembrant 🙂

Italianate Church at Wilton, commissioned by the Countess of Pembroke in 1841. It does look a little out of place in the area, but it’s a lovely building. Inside there are some lovely frescoes around the altar. These are lit by a timed button at the rear of the church, which makes them a nice surprise when visiting for the first time.

This small park on Greenman Street (off Essex Road) was once the location of Tibberton Baths. After the pool was demolished in the 80s the roof structure was left in the park.

It’s a great shame many Bradfordians don’t appreciate what an architecturally great city they live in. Mind you, same here too I spose, and anywhere really.

Very much overlooked, often neglected and unloved, the humble brick built railway viaducts that criss-cross many cities are definitely architectural and engineering marvels, imo.

I mean, it might not look much, but the work that’s gone into that, not to mention the number of bricks…

George Davis is innocent took me back a few years. There was a time when you couldn’t walk for more than a few minutes in London without seeing George Davis is innocent.

Of course he wasn’t innocent. Well maybe for the crime he was fitted up for, but the geezer was a right dodgy ****. I don’t know whether he’s still serving time or not.

I think that graffiti is still there actually. This is a more recent photo, I know this cos those green gates in the background are a recent addition, last couple of years.

EDIT: Taken 15th September last year apparently.

Actually, I might keep me eyes open see if there are any more bits up around. S’funny how you get used to something over the years. I grew up with the G Davis stuff.

Yeah you’re right, the 20mph speed restriction plus the Mondeo suggests that is a fairly recent pic.

But what are we talking about – 35 years ago ? That paint has lasted well. The G. Davis in innocent campaign must have had a few bob and only bought top quality paint.

I had some odd notion it was William Booth, but it’s not, it’s someone called Richard Green, who was a ship owner and philanthropist.

The statue of William Booth I’m thinking of is actually in Whitechapel.

Just behind that are Trinity Almshouses.

There’s the Black Friar in manchester with its odd first floor bay window.

It needs a bit of TLC ASAP before it crumbles.

People don’t realise there used to be another castle opposite Conwy. Just a few ruins and a big wall built into the side left now.

I can’t believe this one hasn’t been done yet. Are there no other South Walesians on here?

I would add that where St David’s 2 meets John Lewis and Cardiff Library at the bottom of the Hayes is one of the best urban renewal projects I have seen anywhere. The urban architect that envisioned that whole section of city deserves a medal.
