Titter ye not, considering one of these as a Christmas prezzy for Mrs Davesport. Problem is that like other pieces of vibrating plastic these things all look the same to me, The prices seem to vary wildly without any real means of quantifying performance. Anyone own or use one of these things? Please keep your answers clean, I don’t want my thread shutting down :o)

    Yeah yeah, so you say…😆

I have no idea what a muscle gun is, and I’m in no hurry to Google it tbh!

They are totally used for the massage of tired, aching muscles.
And not pounding areas with a large number of sensitive nerve endings.

Presumably just go to lovehoney website and buy one with the best reviews for your given budget?

Need something with deeper penetration! 15 mm seems about average but the cheap ones are prone to stalling if too much pressure is used.

The guy at fit 4 racing did a video review recently of 3 he had been sent for testing. I think he recommended one at about £80 but I agree, how you can justify a theragun thing at £400 I am not sure.

We’ve got the Theragun Elite in our household. Other half did a load of research and the she decided that it had the best reviews. Think it was about £300.

I was sceptical at first but having used it for the last month, it really is fantastic. I cycle most days and using it on my legs really sorts my muscles out so that they feel relaxed for the next day. I don’t get that ache/heavy feeling in my quads anymore.

Also helped relieve a knot I had in my shoulders/back.

She does CrossFit so uses it daily too. I’d happily but another one when this one packs up. In terms of the brand itself, I don’t know whether you’d get the same results from a different brand (possibly/probably). There’s probably a You Tube video somewhere comparing them all…

I am sure I watched Eddie Hall using a car polisher on one of his YouTube videos?

I have one of the seemingly generic ones from Amazon for about £70. It’s good-battery lasts pretty well and no issues after a few months use. Not sure what the more expensive ones give you that I would want.

It gives a good massage and gets right into the knots. Seeing as others have gone there I’d say it would not be suitable for sexual activity-way too much of a pounding😱, but you know-some people might like it that way.

I got an amazon cheapie, it’s fine tbh- haven’t used an expensive one so I might be missing something, but it works well, came with 5 interchangable heads, the only criticism really is the mode cycling is one way, so you have to press the button a load of times and cycle up through max speed to turn it off, and if you think “that’s a bit too high” you can’t turn down a notch. Not the end of the world but pretty weak in 2020…

    Still, I’m pleased with it.

Right, cheers for all the info. Bit peeved that it doesn’t have a “dual use” function. How easy would that have been?

Away to have a look at that Fit4racing video.

Slight hijack: I’d dismissed the idea of these at £300-400, but now I see you can get decent ones for less than £100 I’m curious. How are these better than a foam roller? Might use some of my Christmas money on one.

That Holly gif is one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

Might depend a bit on your experiences of a foam roller but I can’t use them effectively at all; just wobble all over the place and can’t get in the right positions to target the muscles. The massage gun is great for targeting specific areas all over the body whereas I guess roller mainly good for large muscle groups.

It would probably complement the roller rather than being a total replacement.

I bought one recently. I’ve only used it a handful of times so far but my legs have felt much better the following day on those days I have used it. I’d recomend using it straight after a ride rather than using it right before one though

I have a Therabody mini massage gun and use it after every ride and absolutely love it.

Intrigued, how would you use one after a ride?

I’d almost have thought a foam roller would be better for big sweeping movements along leg muscles etc. and then using the gun for specific sore bits?

I still don’t trust myself even when using a tennis ball, how do I know I’ve got a ‘knot’ and I’m not just digging into something that’s best left un-dug?

I’d been using a massage ball to get into the knot in my shoulder for weeks, got the massage attachments for a jigsaw (same movement and shapes of tools as the likes of Theragun) and the knot was gone in two days. Went for an Aldi jigsaw and ebay/amazon attachments. They’re not quite the right shape to click into the tool holder so had to file them a bit. £50 for jigsaw, battery and charger and £12 for the attachments and I get a jigsaw out of it too… Plenty of videos on YouTube showing them in action.

can anyone recommend a sub £100 one?

Has anyone stuck a tennis ball to the end of a jigsaw and seen how that works out?

Right, I might have saved myself dropping a ton on one of those massagers. RE the above & a quick trip into the workshop attic & I have the car polisher out. This thing works an absolute treat & Mrs Davesports legs now smell of T-Cut :o) Why didn’t I think of this before?

    Oh My God.

On the back of this thread I’ve just taken delivery of a Renpho Massage Gun (£99.99 from Amazon) and I think it is THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER BOUGHT.

My wife, mother-in-law (who’s staying with us) and I are horse trading over who gets to use it when already!

Buy one, you will not regret it.
