I am planning to cycle the GR5 this summer (lots of training will ensue shortly!). I remember there being an article in STW mag a while ago about a father and son that completed it one summer but I can’t find it. Maybe I made that up!

Has anyone on here cycled the GR5 or is planning to?

I also use Memory Map and was about to buy the Alps maps. Anyone on here have a copy they want to lend/sell?

Any info of guidance is much appreciated.

We ride bits of it where it passes through the Tarentaise, most often the cracking singletrack down from the Col de l’Iseran to Val d’Isere (although you’d be riding UP that!). Be aware that some of the GR5 is inside the Vanoise national park where mountain biking is not allowed (although I’m told locally that in practise you won’t have any problems unless you’re there with 10 blokes on DH bikes hooning around).

Someone on here definitely has done the whole thing (maybe Sapaudia?)

Don’t know about memory map, but we bought the French equivalent (IGN Georando) with pretty much all of the French alps maps for about £35.
