Was driving past Farr to Fort Augustus for work today and there is some quite impressive looking scenery.

Was wondering if anyone knew of any routes, preferably singletrack that takes on good views and some of the rocky hillsides etc.

The great glen way passes through fort augustus. Head north from the visitors centre and you will see a sign. The route has lots of firetrack but the new upper route is more singletrack based.

There is a local building stuff there which is findable too…

There’s the Trail of the 7 Lochs and the South Loch Ness Trail. The latter has some nice track on It, starting at Loch Tarff and features a descent of the Fair Haired Lads Pass. It’s all a mix of quiet tarmac, forest road and short bits of single track.

If doing the SLNT then avoid the first section out of Foyers. Take the road at the back of The Cameron’s cafe instead.

I rode the whole SLNT last month as part of a bigger loop.

I’m not aware of much more in the area though – there’s lots of farmland.

My knowledge is a little out of date but did spend most of my teenage life mountain biking around the forest there.
    Good routes/trails are:
General Wades road to/from A887 over the hill to Fort Augustus.
The river walks/trails around Auchterawe park at the forestry commission offices and explore from there.
The walking paths/trails around Cherry Island are quite good fun and the forest road climb that goes off to the left about 1/4 of a mile from Cherry Island car park heading towards Invermoriston is pretty epic if you like that sort of thing. You can then pick up the lower half of General wades road route (as mentioned above) and decend down to Auchterawe. Then loop around the river side paths as mentioned above before returning to Cherry Island car park Via the great glan way.

Also the paths around Mandally/Invergarry are pretty good.
    Hope that helps some what.

Thank you very much guys. Time to get the map out and do some exploring with that info.

The Trail of the 7 Lochs is mostly designed for horse riding. It has some nice bits, but others are not very ridable.
The South Loch Ness Trail is probably better.

Also the minor road from Farr to Garbole is fun, up over the moorland, plenty of nice scenery.
And the start of the Corrieyairack Pass from Fort Augustus.
