Sort of speaks for itself really, lack of motivation, could have gone for a ride this morning but changed the oil on the van instead then had cake with coffee,am I right to blame the weather, every time I think of getting out to do some Phiz it starts raining and strong gales(yes I’ve seen the Gail platt photoshopped as a bodybuilder on Facebook so don’t bother)
Is it just me,some harsh words would well be appreciated here for once, somewhere along the lines of “get a grip fat stuff”, I have a. Race in April and need to train,I know that when I start it will just flow nicely but it’s just taking that first step.

Get all of your kit ready the night before (including bottles, tubes etc).

Get up, have breakfast and go straight out.

I’m the same, the first moment you think about going for a ride, do it!

otherwise you’ll look at the clock and keep setting deadlines which you won’t stick to.

Don’t ride and stay fat, that should be motivation enough.

Do something else. I haven’t ridden a mountain bike in over a year, but do a load of other workouts and sports. If you can’t be arsed, you clearly don’t love it.

If you don’t ride your bike….

You will get fatter, your wife will find you unattractive and she’ll leave you for a thinner better man, you won’t have sex and you’ll die earlier **** to porn from a heart attack. They’ll just find a dead body and a really graphic movie on loop.

If you do go for that ride none of this will happen and you’ll live a long and happier life, all you have to do is get on a bike and as soon as you do you enjoy it. It ‘s not a chore even in the worst weather it’s fun 😀

Make plans with other people. Nothing motivates me more than not wanting to let my mates down.

I was having the same thoughts a few months ago but turned out primarily because it was due to severe illness. Within days of the illness being cured I had purchased some Lake 360 winter boots and a pair of full lengths altura attack trousers and a new pace 3×3 jacket. Properly equipped clothing wise has made riding at night in this dire crap weather and daylight a real joy and challenge again….it even made me build up a SS mudfest bike!
So unless you are dying MTFU get the right clothing for the weather and get out and ride!

The only thing that motivates me to ride regular is fear. The embarrassment of being last or not being able to keep up.

Organise a C2C with some mates, give yourself 2 or 3 months, set a date and draft a training plan.

Never think when getting ready for a ride; say you’re going to do it, get dressed, head out, it’s always brilliant when you’re actually riding.

Set small goals, ride really gently and enjoy yourself.

After a few weeks of 3 rides a week pick an event that’s 12 weeks away, then come on here and ask for advice on how to prepare for it.
